Exclamation wow READ this.....

well...some of u know me....i got the nice little thirdgen.....ive been thinking for a while now....and i actually brought it up to my dad and he seemed interested in this....i might be selling my 83' camaro for a 98-01 camaro..has to be an SS though, no Z28....hard top/t-top, and definitly a 6 speed....i might be depressed once i sell my car for a little until i feel the new car in my hands...but ive just been thinking pretty hard for a while and the 98-02s are a hard to beat car...great power stock, comfort, and very reliable...oh and they dont have the "red neck-hillbilly" rep as my 83' has.. (no offense to anyone) but i saw this awesome *** dale earnhardt SS camaro at the auction today here (hot august nights) #43 of like 83(85?) and it looks so BAD ***....but i think it would be bad *** to own an LS1...just thought id inform u guys....and i might be a regular here at LS1tech.com over thirdgen.org now......we'll see once we get a little bit more serious....
just thought i would inform u guys

ill miss my 83

You'll forget about the 3rd get as soon as you get the LS1, just the way it is. Third gens are cool but 4th gens are better in pretty much every catagory except maybe depreciation and that will change with more time. You could argue tha a nice looking 3rd gen looks better than most 4th gens but the interiors are not even comparible have less squeaks and rattles, better brakes, suspension, safty features and mileage and reliability. The T56 is an extrodinary transmission. I do miss my old cars and if I won the lottery I'd buy my 93 and 01 back as I'm still in touch with the owners, but when I get in the Z I pretty much don't care

I still love my Thirdgens and my 88 TA will kick the 00s butt in corners without even thinking about it. I deffinately prefer a Thirdgen as a daily, the 00 is good for the track.

And why are you stuck on a SS, buy a Z28 and get the hood.

Can't afford a hood, but can afford the several thousand dollar difference between a SS and a Z28?

If you focus on finding a nice low mile plain Z28 6 spd the money you save will be able to be put into making the suspension WAY better then a stock SS...and that is all the SS is suspension and cosmetic.....the claim of extra hp (same with the WS6 Trans Ams) has not been proven on the dyno or at the track.......go with a plain Z and spend the extra on mods.

Unless you talk to the street racing crowd...

"Whatcha Got?"
"That Trans Am over there"
"Is it just a Trans Am?"
"What do you mean.... its not like a WS6 or a Firehawk or anything"
"Oh good"

Personally, I like having a Z28... and after doing all the mods I have, all an SS package would be is added weight and a hood/spoiler appearance package.

I love it because on the outside, my car is very understated and unassuming. Until I turn the key and fire it up, that is.

I still miss my 88 IROC Z. She was a good solid ride! Red with Black and Silver accents.

Barely any one around here has an all motor car as fast as My blue 95 Z28 was when I tore it down......And I still miss my IROC Z

i will miss my z28...A LOT more than alot.....but i wont have any money to spend on mods my father wouldnt just give me money for mods(with the money from my car and once i break my bank then id get the LS1)...but if a nice clean z28 comes up before an SS comes up then im sure id take it in a heart beat....BUT if a z28 and an SS came up at the same time i would take the SS over the z....i think they look very mean and aggressive...................

anyways....game plan.....first mods i have planned out:
short throw shifter, gears (what stock gears do the 6spds have?), headers, full exhaust

6 speeds come with 3.42 gears....but didn't you just say after buying an LS1 you wouldn't have any mod money? Full exhaust incl headers and a catback is gonna run you anywhere from $1000 to $1500, gears will be another $200 plus the additional items you need to install them (gasket, fluid, etc) and the shifter any where from $50 -200..........oh, and speaking from experience (as can MANY other members here) that stock rear end will be toast VERY quickly, especially if you put diff gears in it.........so plan about a minimum of $2,500 for a nice new 12 bolt or 9 inch rear end once that stock one dies on ya.

These are awesome cars but once you start upgrading (modding) you gotta keep up with the stock parts that you will be inevitably wearing out/killing as the mods progress.........all part of the fun of having this for a hobby/passion.

Get used to that wrecked parts, part....the stock rear end is world renowned for being a weak-*** POS

My rear diff died at 30,000 miles with 350 rwhp and I only took it to the track twice EVER before that. My buddy's '02 Hawk stock rear died with 325 rwhp and no racing at all.............some will last and some won't, that is the fun of having a 4th Gen F-Body.
