I managed to get everything together last night except for ...

Tq convertor bolts
exhaust intermediate pipes
fan and shroud
spark plugs and wires
air box, tube, and MAF
bolt the lower wiring harnesses to the engine oil pan
fabricate a new transmission vacuum line

I think I spent about 7-8 hours on this yesterday to get it this far. This is one of the fastest complete new motors I've seen come together. It will be 3 weeks ago that the other motor blew at about 2 am Christmas morning. I'm still inside of 3 weeks from loss to firing it up right now. I'm trying really hard to give Jim his car back for Christmas! With this goal in mind... there was just no time for *******... ooops... I mean Hooters... and beer. Well that's not exactly true... I did have one Bridgeport India Pale last night

The bridgeport IPA is one of my favorite brews in the NW.

As is usually the case... the last details take forever! Finally got everything bolted up and ready to fire by about 1:30. Then I get the big POP. Blew a 40 amp fusible link on the starter circuit. Make a run to the parts store and buy a few to have on hand just in case.

Crawl back under the truck to look at the starter wires... everything looks fine but I decided to take off the heat shield just in case. Key the engine and then we get the clicking. Sure enough.. it was the heat shield misaligned. But now the battery is dead. Crap.

So I break out the ancient Sears 2/6 amp charger and hook it up at about 2:30. Well, it's 4:30 now and I'm still waiting for the charge to get high enough to crank up the oil pressure.

If I'm lucky I might get to fire it tonight. If I'm not... well discuss that later.

Tried to crank it over to get the oil pressure up at about 10:30 pm. No love. I'm guessing the starter is toast right now. I'm getting a huge power drain and no real cranking action.

Perhaps thsi is what I get for my attempt at a roadside start after the incident but before we knew there a big *** hole in the oil pan. I plan to drop the caddy starter tomorrow and see what happens when I swap it in.

Yep, there is always something you didn't plan on with a project like this. Take your time & it will be fine Cory. One thought, did you make sure the motor turns over (by hand) after installing the dbl roller & your balancer?

I'm paranoid so I crank the motor over at every step many times...lol

I can say that putting in the 6 lug convertor is a bitch though. Since you can't fully snug them until they are all in you have to be very careful installing long bolts. Rotation can be impeded quite easily.

Now I'm positive the starter is dead. And I'm really hoping it isn't hiding any other problems...
