I have a date to have mine installed on Tuesday(along with my pulley and T-stat). If all goes well I'll be looking to dyno soon. I see at least 300 rwhp in the near future.

BTW, Ellis, let me know if we need to set a date to adjust the tune for these changes.

I have never heard of them being required either.

As far as having one or not is pesonal prefrence.
I have one because it makes doing consistant burnouts easier for me.
I have an auto.
I hit the brakes turn the lock on, let go of the brakes, start out in first gear, bring rpms up to around 5k, hold it there for about 4 seconds, shift to second, hold it at 5k for about 4 seconds, turn lock off while holding rmps, when car comes out of the box stomp it as it leaves the box.
I'm sure you could do it without a lock but I would prefer to use the lock.

That's a recipe for a new torque converter. The sprag will not hold up to hooking the tires at full throttle after the burnout.

I'm still using the converter that made over 500 passes behind a 750hp big block. Now it has an easy life behind a 355.

well it never just hooks I usualy just let off the throttle to stop spinning otherwize it would spin past the start line. I have had the same converter and all it does is race I have made around 2500 passes or more so far with no problems out of the converter but like I said its not just grabing the tires while spinning.

Will this hurt the converter. This is the way I was taught to do the burnout by other full time racers and also buy the guy who guides every one into the water who also races. How should the burnout be done?

NWDrag is correct. If it hooks it slams the Sprag. IF you lift before it hooks you are fine.

2500 passes on the same TC eh? ten years?

no 2 years racing 3 times a weak during season and double entering the car in 2-3 classes so thats 4-6 classes a night. so thats 12-18 class entries a week and usually do about 5-9 time trials each night. and each class can be up to around 7-8 rounds depending on how long I stay in.
So yeah I run the crap out of my car.
I did cut back to one night a weak this year though.

...or, people with 04 GTO's. You'd have to be a friggin' bigfoot or have a double jointed knee to heel-toe this car. The 05-06 models are MUCH better. I just drove an 06 today...much better pedal positioning. Heel-toeing was no problem.

BTW, my line lock is now installed. I'll wait for a dry day to give it a real test, but it seems to be working fine. I'm glad I had a professional install it. Even they had one small leak after initial install that needed special attention. Also, the GTO comes with this nice little trap door at the base of the consol where you can easily hide your switch. Noone will know you've got the lock unless you want them to.

what about those that don't do burnouts,
(like people on radial tires)
I've got my *** chewed on a bit for this at PR after my clutch started giving way (and I gave it a nice Power Glaze).

There's a good reason - putting that much strain on the clutch could make it grenade, rip through the bellhousing and take out someone's extremities.

Rare, yes, but using stock parts without a kevlar blanket or high grade bell housing makes it all that more probable when you're standing on the brake and pop the clutch.
