Default Is it the car, or the driver (or both?)

Okay, I have to say I am thoroughly disgusted with the WS6 after today. So disgusted, in fact, that I'm considering selling the car simply because I don't want to be trying to fix it while I'm focusing on making the Formula fast.

The best run I got of the day... 14.259 @ 102.32 mph.

And on that run, I babied it out of the hole, then hammered it all the way down the track, and I don't think I could have hit the gears faster.

Highest trap speed I had all day was 102.49.

So the question is here... what am I doing wrong, or is there also something wrong with the car? The trap speeds are disturbingly low for a M6 car, I think. As soon as I got home I fired up the Formula and took it out for a drive, and it definitely seems faster.

Here's a comparison between my best time slip from today, and one from the Formula. I would think that the WS6 would gain more on the top end than it appears to be gaining.

WS6
60': 2.303
330: 6.263
1/8: 9.415 @ 79.78 mph
1000: 12.043
E/T: 14.259 @ 102.32 mph

Formula
60': 1.973 (-0.33)
330: 5.690 (-0.573)
1/8: 8.667 @ 83.23 mph (-0.748 / + 3.45 mph)
1000: 11.234 (-0.809)
E/T: 13.392 @ 104.46 mph (-8.867 / +2.14 mph)

I don't know what to think... but it's safe to assume I'm pretty disgusted with the WS6 right now.

Honestly zeke I'd give it another shot with the WS6 a few weeks down the road after the track has had some good prep. I was having the same problem opening day last year and then when I went the same day they had the diesel drags I was hooking up a lot better with no other changes other than the day at the track and a lil bit on the driving side.

That first day I was gonna be happy if I hit 13.9's even but couldn't even muster a 14.0 and left kinda disappointed. Then I had the same goal the next time only to have it hit faster than expected the first run and keep getting better. Keep on truckin!

Even with that 2.3 60 ft I would expect your ET to be a little less. When my car was stock I did 14.1 @ 100 on a 2.23 with stock tires (still my best 60 ft to date...) I bet if you hook up you will be well into the 13s.

Yeah............give it some time and a little money. I ran mid 13's with similar 60ft times as you with my heads and cam on street tires. I was a little uneasy about that. But after some time and finess (aka money), I get her runing relatively decent. She's too nice of a car to just get rid of so quickly. And I'm betting you'd be pretty pissed to see someone else squeezing good times out of it after you got rid of it.

I realize that's a problem, but I think the car should be at least a full second faster, and that doesn't seem like enough margin to make up that much on the 60 foot.

Must be the driver...I told you you should let me drive it and I woulda put it in the 13's for you, but nooo...haha! I think if you coulda came outta the hole a little harder and actually ran it hard the whole length of the track it would've done just fine...had the track been better. That right lane was sucking for guys with street tires today. I think that's the root of the problem.

It's not going to get any time or money, I'm not going to take it back to the track. I have my Formula, it's faster, and I have DR's for it. Running a M6 car is too damn frustrating, I'm there to have fun.

My plan is to dyno it to see if it's delivering the kind of power that it should be... but it's racing career is pretty much over.

The fastest run was in the left lane.

I did run it hard the whole length of the track, I just couldn't hammer it off the line. I had to launch it at idle.

Too frustrating, I'm going to stick to running a A4. At least a day at the track is fun that way.

It is more of a challenge to get it off the line and down there. Not sure if you should let your first day out to the track in the M6 ruin it for that car's entire life though. One bad day.. **** it has been one problem after another for me and my car, 2 years now and my best 60ft was when I got lucky the first time I ever dragged, street tires and stock LT1.. With a little more practice I think you will have fun with it. Drag radials help a LOT though. Nice seeing you out there today.

Well my car has had some major obsticles that it had to over come to get it to where its at. I understand that your not turning it into a monster or anything, and that its just a stock daily driver that you think should be faster............... but honestly, how many manuals have you raced at the track before? I have to say its not easy to do....... Your other car is an A4 which is much easier to drive and to be quite frank........they are faster at the strip! I think they are faster because of how difficult the manuals are to drive..........well consistantly anyway!

Don't let a day of bad driving kill the car's potential. Just get that 60' to where it needs to be. Take some driving tips from Ellis.

It's not my daily driver, it's a garage queen like my Formula is. I drive a Chevy Colorado as a daily.

Two. One was a '72 VW Beetle, the other was a '04 WRX STi. Traction wasn't really an issue with the STi, you could dump it at 6500 rpm and still hook. I cut 1.6 times on the 60 foot with that car bone stock on street tires.

Yeah, and the A4 is also less likely to break, and cheaper to make fast. I really don't want to get into the clutch / rearend swapping game like the other M6s guys are.

I guess that takes care of the CROWN ROYAL theory we had. lol

Don't let it get you down, if anything do those free mods, and hit the track again. Remember it's a 98, correct me if I'm wrong, but a lot of those were 14 sec cars?
