Drunken street racing wreck last weekend.
I don't know how many of ya saw the news about the wreck on Hwy 9 in Clearlake Sat. night but my boy was the only survivor from that Dakota. He's still in Harborview's ICU and still has both legs or most of 'em anyway and is doing better. I just don't get how anybody could come out of that truck at all. Stay safe and sober out there.

This was kid number 4 of 8 not a friend. It turns out they were all drunk including the other participant who had 3 previous DUI convictions and a pending vehicular assault, suspended yada yada. The truck hit an 18" telephone pole sideways in the passenger door at 80+. It took them an hour to cut him out cause they had to get the power to the wires that were draped over truck cut off first. It looks like he'll live but it'll be a long time before he walks again. Hell, I street race myself but only at certain spots in as much of a controlled situation as possible. I damned sure don't rat race drunk down skinny, icy roads at two AM.

Oh wow, I'm really sorry to hear that Charlie! Thank god he made it though! My thoughts and Prayers are with you all!
I did hear about the accident, but the news never did show pictures or say who was involved, just that it was a car and truck racing. That's pretty sad and I hope other young kids see this and think twice about doing that stuff...

I hate to say it, but we are seeing too much of that crap lately. It happened up near Oak Harbor yesterday with some kids. I'm sorry about what happened to your kid, but hopefully it will send a message to someone who is thinking about getting behind the wheel after a few drinks.

Damn Charlie, that's horrible!!! I'm so sorry. Glad your son is going to make it, and I hope he walks again. Street racing is too dangerous, which is why I don't plan to do much with this new setup. Bad **** happens way too fast, and too often anymore.

Really sorry to hear about that Charlie. It brings back major memories for me though. It was less than a mile from that spot that I broke my neck in a car wreck in my freshman year in high school by hitting another telephone pole at over 100 mph. It was on the south side of town ( going towards Mount Vernon ) headed south that it happened to me, ironically it was in a '71 Camaro with 2 other people in the car. Everybody lived, but it was a long time before we got back to normal. I never have Naturally we were drunk at the time. There is a time and a place people. If you've been drinking then the time is ANOTHER time.
I hope your boy is alright. He's going to be dealing with the emotional issues for the rest of his life unfortunately

Wow. This bumbs me out. I really am sorry to hear about this being so close to home. I heard the story on the news and it struck me harder than it normally would for some reason and now I guess I understand why. We all seem to have an immortality complex and think bad things only happen to other people, but when they happen to us we aren't ready for it.
I am sorry to hear about your son, Charlie. I pray he would have a speedy recovery (physically AND emotionally).
