It's not about "legal", it's about common courtesy. If you're not going faster than the traffic to your right, get to the right yourself so others can get by, HOV or not.

Well 405 and 167 are free after 7:00 pm for anyone so at that time it is the fast lane...

I had a guy do that to me once! I was following Ellis to Bellevue and had no idea where we were going so there was no way I was letting the idiot in. I HATE people like that! It's not my fault YOU ARE AN IDIOT! I should make me a sign to hold up that says that...There are so many idiots out there it isn't even funny...

At the risk of being rude...**** em. Get in the mother ******* right lane NOW bitch.
OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH, I get so mad, If I want to speed, Let me. I will get my ticket when the time is right pay my fine and insurance and move on.
People here use the left lane/HOV lane as a cructh. They don't have to let anyone in and don't have to watch for merging traffic. I am so glad I don't own a gun and I never will. Washington says...Drive Friendly...Drive Friendly?... Let me tell you how to do it. Get the **** out of the Left Lane/HOV lane if you are going slower than 70. I won't get mad then.
EERRRRRERRR AAAAHHHH MMMMMMM. ROAD RAGE at the computer. **** **** **** GHAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1

When I drove my 3/4 ton big block Suburban I could make the ******* move out of my way. I would back off a bit and nail it, all they could see in the mirror was a big Chevy grill and bumper coming at them like it was going to run right over them, they almost always moved out of the way. I never hit anyone but did scare a few people riding with me when they couldn't see the back end of the car as I got real close to them.

This method doesn''t work with my T/A, I guess it's not nearly as intimidating.

I think you misunderstand me and it certainly has nothing to do with "common courtesy". I am as big of a "KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS" supporter as you're going to find - trust me. Problem is that this DOES NOT APPLY to the HOV lane and I'm tired of people who are misinformed about this. Buses, Paratransit, vanpools, etc., all cruise in the HOV lane and many of those vehicles cannot go much beyond 65mph, whether you like it or not. Bottom line is that when there is an HOV lane left then you should treat the left-most non-HOV lane as the fast lane. Now, on the same side of the coin and under these circumstances, you should consequently stay out of this left-most, non-HOV lane except to pass. See the distinction? If Mr. Slowass gets out of the HOV lane then he is getting INTO the fast lane - is that what you want? Besides, ***-riding in the HOV lane IMO is just like ***-riding in the right lane and I, for one, do NOT take kindly to that. If you don't like it then blame our ******* idiot lawmakers (or should I blame the DOT?) for designating the left lane as HOV instead of the right lane as God intended.

Again, not trying to **** off the mob, just stating the facts...

Yeah, as much as I don't like the rain, we sure do need it! Some of those Forest Fires are getting too close for comfort!

I agree with most of what you say, but I'll take exception to this. I've driven in more states than I can remember. I have driven for a living most of my life and am well beyond the million mile mark. I currently work for Metro.

If you really think the HOV lane should be on the right, just take some time to observe the difference between 520(the only major 60mph right lane HOV highway) and the others. 520 has a 3 person limit instead of the normal 2. This is because the lane needs to be more open to handle all the merging traffic and gore zones. The ramps on WA highways are crap. Most states, and all interstates, require significantly more deceleration/acceleration distance than WA on thier off/on ramps. Even with that restriction driving the 520 HOV lane is a very risky affair. It is one of the most accident prone lanes of highway I know of. I personally have nearly turned many cars into hood ornaments because I was doing 60mph in my bus and some idiot was casually entering the freeway at 30-40mph, talking on his/her cell phone and not paying attention to his gore zone. Another common one is an offramp that has backed up onto the freeway and the oncoming Bus doesn't see the backup until he's too close to stop safely. A bus moving 60mph takes over 300 feet to stop on dry pavement. That's about twice the average car.

Simply put, having the HOV lane on the left improves average lane speed and saves lives.

You've got a good point and in re-reading my quote it was a little harsh and probably knee-jerk. I do understand what you mean about problems with the right side HOV and I have seen it firsthand. I don't get down 405 much anymore, but used to be that the HOV was on the right in some areas there and you had to fight the on and off ramps, which was not fun. IMO, the HOV lane is fine on the left just so long as people recognize it as such instead of the fast lane - that's really the point I was trying to make. I think we agree on the basics, it just maybe didn't come across that way
