Default Winter time, lets mod this LS1

Anyways, its almost x-mas time, and I want to modify this motor before I put it in my car. Its an 02 LS1, out of a WS6. Its going in a 67 camaro.

Now, I want to do the heads and cam, but what all do I need to go with this. What about the intake side, should I leave it or change it. I want a lot of power, coming from my cobra which was 560+.

Remember, I dont know **** about these cars....

How much power do you want, and how are you going to use the car?

450+ would be nice, but is that possible.

Get a good set of heads (used set), good cam, and I say run a Vic Jr. intake on it to give a carb intake look with a 90* elbow and a 90mm Nick Williams TB.

Also to give a good old look I would mount the coils out of the way (down on the frame rails or the firewall) and put a set of these valvecovers on...

I wouldn't mind helping out...

That intake is different, any pics of them on the cars? I dont think that I will do it, but its different. I have covers like the vettes do for the MSD coilpacks, they are smoothed ones.

Thanks, so whats the deal then? Tell me more about the LS7 clutch setup too, I was looking into that as well. How is it? I have seen a list of part numbers, always changing, so whats the right ones? Best price?

So your engine has the LS6 intake which is a good one. I gained ~15hp with my LSX intake over the LS1, you get around 5. I would get the TB ported if you don't want to spend all the money on a 90mm. And get some MAF ends (I gained .25 sec at the track). The right cam & good heads will get you into the 450rwhp area pretty easily. 5.3L heads will give you higher comp ratios & work well for spinners, and 6.0L heads have bigger runners & chambers (good for boosted apps).

Ellis, Ryan & Jim are the local LS1 engine / cam / head combo gurus I'd ask / listen to.

I was looking at the TSP package with the MS3 and 6.0 heads. Does that sound like a good combo? Now for the maf ends, my maf is built into my intake, its all 1 unit. Its from Street and Performance.

So are you going to stay with the stock short block? That would decide which heads I went with, that & FI. The 6L heads flow well, but they lower your compression. And milling any LS1 head more than .030 can lead to other issues from what I've seen.

Yeah, I am going to stick with the stock shortblock, but once it blows, its done. What are your recommendations.

Not a good choice if you want to drag race. It's the biggest complaint over in the C6 Z06 forum, they just won't hold the power. textralia is a better choice. Check out the clutch section there is Textralia poll going for insight, and the ls7 clutch is discussed. My Tex is holding 636rwtq just fine, and I have somewhere around a total od 200 passes without an issue.
