Hey Dog, after watching some of the corners you carved in the 1/4 mile, maybe I should listen to you..... I might cut a hole in my cowl like you did to let heat out of the engine bay.....maybe.
The rules are whatever tire I run in the road race, I must run in the 1 mile shootout too. And the road race is 50 miles each way, target speed (average) will be 120, tech speed (max) will be 140, car will weigh over 4k no matter what I take off. And we will be taking some turns at over 100mph. Not a good thing for DRs.
The car should pass tech for 168 I think. But only Boyce has ever been allowed to exceed 140 as a rookie. Considering this will only be in a straight line, which I have a fair amount of experience running, I'm hoping they will let me run the 1 mile race. If not, I hope to finish on top for the 1/2 mile.
We are probably changing the gear ratio to 2.70 to keep the rpms down during the road race. The car would be turning ~ 3k at our cruising speed of 120, and if I had to hit passing gear to keep that 64 Galaxie behind me, it would drop into it's power band at 4250.
More math - 2.70s would let me run 182mph in 3rd gear @ 6500 rpm, with a top speed of 260 in 4th. Not to worry Ellis, we don't have that much HP, & Ram Air hoods come apart at 190mph anyways.

Just my thoughts
Run 275's that is what I run and the shoot out is a secondary goal. I don't even run shoot outs, the added stress and strain on the car just scares me.This maybe because I blew a tire at 204mph.
Have you asked for permission to run faster then 120 average? Boyce is not the only one that has gotten the nod to up the speed.
Jeffy'

I've run the RII and now run the nt-01. The rII comes in a 305 I believe. The nt-01 in a 315x18 not sure about a 17 or 16. I've run my car to 145+ with the nt-01 on the back with zero handling issues. Only had the 275x17 rII on the back and it was very stable as well but I didnt have it at 140 either.
With the 315's the only issues I had with rub would be in a corner if there was a bump in the corner. But since the 9" install it doesnt rub anymore, or I havent been able to make it rub yet. Or Ellis clearanced it a little. I know he worked the tunnel but I didnt think he worked on the wells.
The NT-01 is friggin scary over 65 in a decent rain.
jus ma esperience wid a couple tires mentioned

The shoot out however is an area my car could make some noise in. It's not setup to take corners @ 200mph, but for 1 mile I think it will hang with most of the cars that show up. In the 1/2 mile I'm hoping to be in the top 5....which would be sweet for a newbie.
And no I haven't asked. Mike kind of hinted that maybe they'd consider something. In reality I'm not sure I want to take my car *****-out for a mile. I'm kind of scared just how fast it might go. I figure 160-170 is my cajone limit for now.

Nope, I don't have specs yet. I figured I'd talk to you, Don, Bill & Ellis at LENGTH before I decided. And the trans temp isn't my main concern. It runs pretty cool (<150*) with the Be-Cool + B&M. The engine oil on the other hand runs HOT (>230 with the coolant temps <190). This is cruising down I-5 @ 65-70. Hence Bills dif/oil cooler in my garage. And me trying to figure out how to create heat extractors....while limiting the risk of any oil on the windshield.
