Default Corvette C6, how do you guys feel about it?

No I am not getting one, but again another forum I frequent has been having a discussion about a certain high end car staying manual and not offering an auto as to keep it exclusive.(I hate linking to other forums and starting trouble). At any rate he pretty much said the C6 was worthless on a road course and the cars Like the STI, EVO, M5, and CTS-V. Walk all over it and it was not worth buying it and it shouldn't have an Automatic.
I beg to differ, but it is not worth arguing with the guy.
I was wondering how you guys felt about that.
I think he is full of it. He says GM is just a sell out company concernced about making money and SUVs and I said you Well they are concerned about making money.
The Guy drives a GM and WRX.

Ask him who the target market for Suburu is? Ever see anything but a Kerry/Edwards sticker on the back of one?

I love it Don!! I don't argue with the guy. He is very smug, thinks that no purist would ever own an automatic. I asked if he ever drag raced this was his answer:
"I shift faster than any GM Slush box."
OMFG...what a dork...

Ask him if he ever watches the road course races? I seem to recall 2 yellow Zs winning many events this year. With 6 speeds if I remember correctly....arguement ended.

But it would make a better drag race car with an auto.

He does say the Z are "alright", he is more concerned with the "plain" C6...

I gotta say that I like em. I've personally put 4 intakes on them and loved every one of them. Easy to get 400rwhp with bolt-ons. The chassis is tighter than any other vette. If I could add a 5th car... it would be a C6.

The stupidity runs deep in this boy. You can tell by his lack of Knowledge or under standing of sales

What is he going to do when the day comes the over zelus carpet munching tree huggers force all cars sold in the USA to be Automatic for our "Safety"?

Well if you drive a WRX of course you would think every car needs a manual trans. Stupid cars have a such a narrow power band, 22wtq from idle to 4krpm where it picks up to a massive 200wtq.

Every test I have read in magazines or seen on video of the C6 manual had no problems on road courses. Every driver had nothing but glowing things to report about the ride and handling on the course. What is this guy talking abut?

And we all already know that GM sold out to the SUV market back in '03 when they killed the F-Body.

Hrmm...here's Top Gear's lap times:

Z06 - 1.22.4
BMW M5 - 1.26.2
C6 - 1.26.8
Lotus Exige - 1.26.9
Evo 8 - 1.28.9
STI - 1.29.4
Monaro VXR - 1.30.1 (LS2 powered GTO)
Nissan 350Z - 1.31.8
CTS-V - 1.33.3
Monaro - 1.33.9 (LS1 powered GTO)
Lotus Elise - 1.35.6

Of the models listed in the original post, only the M5 is serious competition for a C6 on a road course.

I would argue GM is effectively marketing the platform.

Z06
C-6 6 speed
C-6 Automatic
Vert 6-speed
Vert Auto

All appeal to different buyers, I'd doubt the consumer buying a C-6 Auto is thinking of using it at the track on weekends.

The only place a WRX might have a chance against a C6 is in a parking lot chasing cones in 2nd gear. On a real road course, at least a mile or longer, any C6 would kick the **** out of a WRX. Especially on courses with long straights.

I was on a Corvette club run to Mt Raineer a couple of years ago. Out of 25 cars there were only 2 manual cars - mine and another Z06. Most of the club are old folks and not interested in running their street cars at the track.

Just for the record, I edited out the models not in discussion. Even the Z06 comes in well behind the true supercars at spot #13 of 85. Just for fun, here's the real top 10 -

1 - Koenigsegg CCX (with TG spoiler) - 1.17.6
2 - Pagani Zonda F - 1.18.4
3 - Maserati MC12 - 1.18.9
4 - Ferrari Enzo - 1.19.0
5 - Ariel Atom - 1.19.5
6 - Porsche Carrera GT - 1.19.8
7 - Koenigsegg CCX (w/o TG spoiler) - 1.20.4
8 - Ascari KZ1 - 1.20.7
9 - Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren - 1.20.9
10 - Ford GT - 1.21.9

Yes, it's true, a Ford barely outshines the Z06.

Well for the record this guys other car is a V. He feels the V should only be offered in a 6 speed, I say bullshit. I would have one but the wife dosen't want a 6 speed on her commute and I don't blame her with the baby and all. He says that the 6 speed will keep the car exclusive, I said the price will do that don't worry and if you want exclusive get a Rolls or Bently.
There is another guy on said forum with a 78 Corvette 700R4 ZZ4 355 HP crate motor. Nice car here is what he has to say...
I out run Camaros and Firebirds all day long in my Vette and My V (bone stock mind you)is twice as fast as the vette or any Camaro/Firebird.
I don't even argue with them as it does no good. They should be forced to drive Aveos becuase of their utter stupidity. The reading of the forum is good entertainment though...

What is the fastest you can push a button on a stopwatch? Best I could do is .11 sec, and that is with my thumb on top of the button, letting off and back down. My tranny on the GTP will do consistant .10 shifts. I wouldn't know how to time my shifts on the M6 in my TA but at best I would think I am able to go 1 - 2 (stock) in the range of .2 - .3 sec, so going down the track I spend probably close to half a second just changing the gear in the car, my auto in the GTP had .3 sec on me. Talking 13/12 sec cars, it may not seem like a big diff, but if they were 9 sec cars or lower, that .1 sec change/difference is pretty impressive imo. I would consider a Manual tranny more of a slushbox than a Auto.

If I am driving through the city, or spend a lot of time driving through the city, I prefer the auto hands down. When I take the TA to work in the summer over the GTP my driving route changes, less shifting to be had and a little more speed involved!

What interest do you have with us NW peeps Nine Ball? Isn't it too cold up here for you to even look at our section of the forums this time of the year?
