Who's got a lathe?
I'm not a machinist but cant you take a rectanular peice of stock, say aluminum (said like Sgt Shultz... one for the old timers there), and turn it and make it round? I had a fuel log made at a local machine shop and they gave me a block. I was wondering if we had anyone here with a lathe *cough* Robert? that could spruce it up a bit. Its drilled and tapped but isnt very asthetic.

Another option is milling flat edges to make it octogon shaped.

The machinist was supposed to make it round, so I'm not going back there and give and give him another chance to screw up again. IT was only $50 but still, another 30 minutes to turn it wouldnt have killed him.
The hex thing is a good idea. I can file that or grind it first then file.
