Looking for a local 3rd gen
The GT package used to appeal to me, but now I just think its ugly. Plus the GTs weigh more than the LX.
Definatly want to stay away from the autos. My dad had a mustang as a highway patrol car for a year and had 3 new trannys put in it, and that was witht the stock HP.
I'd still take a clean late TPI third gen over a mustang though.

the last being i think my best bet. I know I know, a mustang. But I've always loved those fox body mustangs, and there next to impossible to beat for bang for the buck. and the after market is insane. let me know if any of you guys have seen these cars. and what you think of them. i am think i might want to get back into carbs. that what i started out with, and i love EFI, but carbs are just so much easier to work with and upgrade. and since my next car is not going to be a D/D (i have my prelude for that), i don't have to worry about reliability.

Obviously I don't dislike those cars, but I would not buy an auto ever again in one.

It is hard to get loans for cars of that age, not impossible, but the younger you are, the harder it CAN be. Just save your money and pay cash for one. You don't want to have to have a loan on a 14+ year old car anyway.

The diff between my 2 GT's (auto vs. 5-speed) was like a diesel compared to a corvette when it came to aceleration, shifting, etc.

I assume you don't like the 4 headlights of the older foxes (referred to has 4 eyes)? Although I have never done it, replacing the nose is cheap and easy. There are some pitfalls and real differences by year so do a little research before you buy one. Get one that will suit your needs. If it is to be a daily driver, EFI would probably be the best. My first one (an '87) ran 12's NA with a stock cam and got 23 mpg. Hard to beat that.
Vette run's 12s and gets 30+ mpg.....just had to rub it in....this rustang thread is starting to make me sick
