Let me know when you are in the market and narrowing the field of cars. At the last CCC (Bremerton) was a US soldier a week from leaving for Iraq who was told that an '89 Saleen clone he just purchased was equipped with a Tremec trans and Trick Flow heads and so on. It turns-out the car had none of those things: It had a new trans, but it was a T5, it had aluminium heads, but not Trick Flow heads, etc.
So, caveat emptor.
Good luck.

The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
I've had several mustangs over the years....
79 2.8 auto.....slooooooooooow
79 2.3 auto.....slooooooooooooooooooooooower yet
82 200 auto.....slooooooooooooooow
84 GT 5.0 5 speed carb..... slow
88 GT T-tops 5 speed...getting better now
90 LX 5 speed...much better "I kept this one a long time and it was not stock"
99 GT 5 speed...killer sound with the offroad H and flows, 3.73 really woke it up but still not very fast IMO. Never was happy with it after having a 95 Firehawk M6. Mustang would have no chance against the hawk.
Go FI IMO but hey...that's just me.
