If you have the Pro interface, you have to connect it to the car with the laptop connected as well, load up the scanner, and then write the config / VIN of the car you're trying to scan to the MPVI. After that you can disconnect the laptop, and then just hit "record" on the MPVI to do logging. If you don't do this, you just get an "error" light on the MPVI.

Kind of a kludgy way to set it up, but once it's configured it works real well. The only bitch I have about it is that you have to do that every time you change which car you're doing the logging on, so if you're switching between a lot of cars, it gets to be a real pain. It only stores 1 VIN/config at a time.
