Oh man
Condolences to both Mark and Linda, they worked as a couple to have such a beautiful car. As mentioned though at least you were able to walk away.

Hey mark so sorry to hear about the car but i am so glade that you are alright. I know the feeling o fhte car just loosing it BUt at least you can still pull the motor so it's not a total loss. One question how did the side bar of the cage hold up? Once again i am glade you are ok cause that is the most important thing after all.

You could always drop that motor in lindas charger! I think she would love it.

My condolences, Mark. I'm sure you are already aware, but you can buy the car from the insurance company if they total it -at a fraction of the totalled value.

Let me know if you need someone to look at a used________ (fill in the blank) in my area. Might save you a long drive.

It's negotiable, but the insurance company holds most of the cards. You can get a lawyer, but that's another expense...

Dang Mark, I'll miss seeing you and your red beast. I'm glad you're OK. Are you leaning towards buying back the wreck and repairing it, or getting a new car and working it up?

Right now I am waiting for the adjuster to talk to the body shop. The mgr at the body shop thinks it's gone, but I have it insured as a collector car for a "high value" so I figure Grundy will not want to pay that amount if possible.

But yes, I plan to get it back & build another car. I have some leads on several Trans Ams, and I just had another idea about a Camaro. We'll see.

Here is a link to some pics that Steph took at the scene.

It deosnt look so bad! The desciption sounded worse than it looks. Might not be totalled then if you had it insured higher. I guess it all depends on if the frame is bent to much. Almost looks like you just need a door, I know theres more but it isnt bad looking at all. Good luck with INS adjuster. Mine was $8600 to fix and then I dropped 2k out of my pocket on a total paint job and new K-member from UMI. I bet you get out for under that... or maybe anyway

Yeah, I dunno if would wanna be driving around on wet pavement on Hoosiers... I won't even drive my Formula on M/T drag radials...

Looks like most of the car is relatively unharmed, though.. should be easy to use as a parts car to build something new.

The pics really don't do it justice. The rear hatch and hood are tweaked, the floor board is crumpled...the dash is squished...not just the door is dented. If it were just the door it wouldn't be such a bad thing.

From the paint described as being dumped on the road, I don't think it mattered if he had tank treads on at the time. It can be quite effective as a lubricant.

Mark - So sorry to hear about your loss, but thank God you walked away to play another day.

I wouldn't want to repair it & put my motor back in! The floor is crumpled to about the middle of the pass seat. The drive shaft tunnel moved over to where the loop hits the drive shaft. The end of the front subframe got pushed over to where it is touching the headers. The body shop said it would have to be cut into 3rds & welded back together. I doubt if it would go straight at the race track after that.

As for the Hoosiers, this is the second set I've worn out on this car without any issues. That paint is what caused this. Maybe I could have recovered it if I had the F1s on the back, but the front tires didn't seem to steer either....but I doubt I'll run Hoosier DRs on the street ever again.

Here's the paint after the road was dry...I've been leery driving over it in the rain I cannot imagine what went through Marks head as he slid on it...

Why hasn't the DOT come and scuffed up that part of the road yet? One crash has already happened and it hasn't stopped raining

I hate it when the DOT has to have a fatality to do anything.

I agree. There are several skid marks on the road now coming out of that paint. None are mine. And had I been speeding, or if I didn't have all the suspension/chassis parts on the car, they might have had one.

The seat belt bracket on the drivers seat was also smashed. Only 2 ways I can think of that could happen. Either I rebounded hard enough after imapct to hit the roll bar (I don't remember coming back that hard but I could have) or the frame flexed enough that the roll bar moved & hit the seat.

As Ellis said, had it not been for the sub frame connectors & roll bar.....

Yeah, we have one guy that flies by here so fast I can't even tell what kind of bike he rides...I've been waiting to see that guy's obituary in the local paper.
