The LS1 is a pretty durable engine, 100K miles on one of these cars isn't really anything to worry about. I have almost 90K on my Formula now, and it's probably made 500+ passes down the drag strip in the last 4 years.

The bigger worries are more whether it's been taken care of mechanically... what kind of shape the rear end is in... the clutch if it's a M6..

i was just reading yesterday on the Performance Truck forum (see way up top...sister sight for the trucks) Anyway, someone has 530,000 miles on thier pickup with the 5.3L engine which is very similar to the LS1. In that time they've installed 2 oil pumps and 2 trannyies. Not too bad in my book.

My T/A has 105k and the engine is still going strong
My vette has 95k and is also still going strong.

Dude as Zeke said you got to wait more than a few mins for people to post not all of us sit around the computer all day long.

we use to have an LS1 Car (99Z) before we traded down to a 71 RS/Z28. When we sold it it had Over 100k miles on it & it ran great.

These are not the throw away engines or cars like the GEO metro (My brother in laws has almost 400k on his engine) or those crappy rice burners. These engines are made to last.

I have had 3 LS1 cars and 1 5.3 truck all have been great with no problems. I put 120,000 miles on my 98 F car and had no problems, except 1 clutch and 1 broke rearend.
However, I am not the man to discuss rearends with. I like to break them.

The 4th Gen F-body as a whole is a pretty durable car ESPECIALLY in stock form. I've driven a 4th gen or a vette for the last I think 11 years!!! I've NEVER had to have a tow, and when things do go wrong its usually my fault.

I would buy a car on condition rather than mileage for example if there was a PERFECT car with 95k and a car someone didn't take car of with 20k miles on it I'd take the 95k car.

I would pick up a 6 speed unless you plan on making it a strip terror.

In your price range you should be able to pick up a 99-01 nice z28 with under 80k on it easily. I'd keep looking there are plenty of low mileage cars, I would make an offer on AckAttachs car though that thing is pretty sweet and rare color, and we all know he got it pretty cheap

There was a white z28 with 85k on it for like 6200 on craigslist awhile back with some extras....makes the ridiculous money I have into my car seem silly,at least that one ran!

Now is a great time to be looking at Fbody's. Most dealers view these cars as "summer" cars so the prices seem to fluctuate quite a bit from spring to fall. Good luck in your quest and welcome to the site man.

everyone else hit it right on the button, Give it sometime and usually you will get the answer you are looking for or at least headed in the right direction.

BTW if you are looking dont limit your search to ls1tech. I found my current car on Autotrader. The guy lived in Eugene, OR and was 61 yrs old. Car had only 42k on it in almost mint condition.

Don't just look at F-bodies. There are a ton of low mileage C5 corvettes and GTOs out there. I just had my 04 GTO appraised and the average miles on 2004 GTOs is only 27k.(compared to 53k average for all 2004 cars according to kelly blue book)
