Default Quick n00b question about air pressure in a tire

I've got the stock 275/40ZR17 Goodyear Eagle F1's on my SS

I'm gonna be making some 1/4 mile passes tonight once i reach Spokane

I am wondering what a safe air pressure would be while im at the track to get the most traction i can out of these tires?

thanks in advance for the info

Keep telling yourself that. I did...
I have broke count 'em 3 10 bolts on stock tires, one set of GSC's and one set of RSA's. I have broken 5 or 6 total not including two 12 bolts.
Becareful out there!!!

I broke a 2.73 rear end with a completely stock drivetrain, Kuhmo 712s and an automatic transmission.

Personally, I would recommend 26-28 lbs. That's where I ran my cars on street tires, and I cut 1.9x times on the 60' doing that.

Good luck hooking, though.

I guess i will never understand how people can consistantley pop the stock rearend. I ran mine with 4.10s on slicks into the 10s and it never made a peep of noise. I have a thesis that it is mostly determined by how you drive it day to day on the street. I wish i kept my 10 bolt to be honest. Anyhow to answer your question i went 1.87 on F1s with 22psi ride the clutch somewhat and i stayed at about 3/4 throttle till i felt them starting to grab and then WOT. Goodluck street tire launching is an art to say the least.

Shock is how the 10 bolt gets popped. An auto tranny doesnt hit the way an m6 does when you drop the clutch or down shift hard into a corner or drop 2nd at 50mph or 3 at 70mph for roll racing. As far as I'm concerned that 10 bolt never should have been acceptable for GM to install in the first place. They took the cheap way out and it shows horribly. I tore mine up being stock and then cam only finished it off.

Its supposed to be a muscle car, you dont put an s10 rear-end in it and expect it to handle the abuse it was supposedly built to take. Or just build automatic trannys for the car because anyone who is slightly agressive with an M6 will break the POS.

20-24 lbs the softer the better. The harder the tire the lesser the tracton off the line.

I dont believe in riding the clutch to save anything. You should be able to drop it and go without worry.

A4 or M6? In MOST cases not all that makes the difference. I have seen some A4 rearends take a lot of abuse...

Yea 6-speed and i used to race it on slicks too but i was probably just lucky. I think it has to do with how wussy i drive the car when not on the track. Im sure i only cry because im super cheap and hate myself for spending the money on a 9in in a car im now probably going to sell. BTW so how did the passes go.

Didn't see you out there Friday, you make it out?

I drop my tires down to about 24 PSI and regardless it doesn't really help. Car spins just about all of first and going to second I can feel it really struggling to grab. I almost thought about trying to powershift it like Ellis said, but I don't have anyone to tow the car home if I do blow something up.

These are with 2k RPM launches also and a little burnout to get the dirt and rocks off the tires also. Think I need to just finally go get some real suspension mods on it to hook. I think my best in it is a 2.28 60'.

yeah, i showed up at 9pm rather than 8pm as planned..........still havent figured out why it took me longer to get over there than last time

anyway, i made 2 passes and then my friends from over there wanted to go cuz they'd been there since 6:30 and wanted to eat......

best was a 13.35 at 109 mph.........my friend forgot his tire pressure thing and i hit 3 gas stations near the track and the only one that had one was a cheap *** $1.59 special that said all my tire pressure was at 31 lbs already......

i just left it alone and ran as it sat.......

2.3 60 foot ftl
