Default Is this bad?

I yanked the rear case off my t56 today because I'm waiting for the rebuild stuff to arrive from six speeds inc. and the magnets were COVERED in shavings, chips, and bearing cages. Yikes.

This is my first, I'm definately going to have fun!

how much does a rebuild kit run? What all are you doing? I'm sure someday I'll need to do some "maintenance"

I beat the crap out of my little 305. But it goes well for what it is.

The kit was almost as much as the whole trans from them. A synchro kit (I went with their 2A with steel forks, pads, etc) and separate bearing kit and a third gear replacement was $983 shipped.

More pictures of inside the case! I finally got time to tear it down!

I yanked the 5/6th gear assemblies off and a huge chunk fell out, luckily it was from the main section of the case. It's about a 1/2"x1/2".

More parts as I pull things.

Right after I pull the main body off.

Oh wait, is that supposed to be attached? That's the famous aluminum shift fork.

More work tommorrow!

the fact that I see that in most the T56s I rebuild It is usually the 3/4 syncro "Dogs". They slide back and forth across the most unsupported part of the shaft. There job is to engage the blocker rings and bring the gear up or down to speed on the shift.

SO at any time did your shifter get stuck in 3rd or 4th?

No, it was never stuck in gear, but at one point I pulled it out of reverse and into first when I was turning around in my driveway and it just stopped. Wasn't in gear, engine running, no ebrake and didn't move (was on a hill too). Had to pop the clutch in first to get what I assume was that chunk out of the gearset. Carnage is cool.
