Hurricane warning?!?
This time I ended up right in the worst part of it.
We just got our power and phones back today. (Saturday)
The good news is that there was no damage done to my place but the worst part was being trapped.
I couldn't go anywhere as the road going out to the North and to the South of me was blocked my large Pines.
Second worst part was no water.
My generator was able to run the lights in the house but not able to run the well pump.
We ended up putting a horse trough in the back of the pickup and driving town to the river on the other side of the house and scooping and filling the trough with water.
Down to the house where we boiled some for drinking and put the rest next to the growler to flush when needed.
I was able to get out Thursday night and drive almost 100 miles each way to Olympia Washington to get fuel for the generator. It was an all day mission. I also got some canned food and batteries. We had to ration the generator operation as it burned 1 gallon per hour. Pretty thirsty.
Thank God we had two propane stoves and a months worth in the tank.
I rigged up a power inverter in one of my trucks to supply 110v to run the
blower in the stove over night. Did a nice job of heating the house.
The damage in Grays Harbor was staggering. Many buildings caved in, signs blown over and roofs damaged.
The trees that fell did so by the thousands.
In the 9 miles stretch from the main highway to my house, I counted 81 trees across the road and power lines.
There were no emergency services....no FEMA.....no police or fire....Nobody!!
I guess we were pretty lucky as there was damage to the homes on either side of us but none to our place. Having to eat sandwiches for all three meals and bathing out of a bucket got old in a hurry.
We plan to make some major changes to our food stock and are in the process of purchasing a new Propane power generator and having a new 1500 gallon propane tank put in to replace the one we use for the fireplace heaters.
You KNOW this won't be the last time this will happen.
I had sustained winds of 85 mph with gusts to 105.
The weather forecaster said high winds at 35 mph with higher gusts.
He wasn't kidding about the gusts.

My brother in law lives in OakVille & they lost power sunday night & didnt get it back until like weds or thursday & were baiscally stuck where they were at too, like you no damage done to the house or animals but it was being stuck in one location that got them all cabin fever. I saw him at work today (he works for the City of Yelm) he sort of Honked at me & wave to let me know that he made it out & was ok.
His son came to our party on Saturday(drove up to my place & went with Dan & I)
The damage is very widespread and the winds were awesome.
