Yeah me likey too
Ellis had mentioned LS7 top end and i'm trying to figure out how much more that would be vs. what they're offering and what kinda gains vs. what they have already dyno'd...

Dude you talking about budget is like a Vegas Stripper talking about a boob reduction!
I think if I was doing an engine from scratch for the street I'd do a 402. Only reason I went 454 is my heads were done up for a bigger bore and I didn't want a resleeve.
Now if you are planning on racing it then the extra money on that Toro would be sweet...although you could always buy nitrous too for the track.
But I'm just a conservative old man

I said decide your budget not limit your budget....
I like a combo built specificaly for what I want to do with it. I went custom all the way this time. Erik at HKE is pretty much the same price as SDPC. Then you can upgrade things for a little bit more money if you want to. Like Morel lifters and various little things that can make for a better build.
I havent seen an L92 combo out yet with great numbers either and those numbers are on an engine dyno he's looking at. That thing will be disappointing in a car if you ask me.. maybe I'm wrong but show me.
If you want 427 HP you need the 427 bore. 4.125
barely 600hp and 560tq on an engine dyno isnt going to out perform a 408 or 402.
I say set a budget and goals. Talk to Erik. Plan to exceed your budget if you have my self control
but what do I know.

We didn't post the largest dyno number engine we offer, we put together a very driver friendly setup that performs beyond most anyone's desires and expectations from such a driver friendly setup.
We also offer LS7 block builds as well, for prices that are as competitive as anyone's.

Not as much as you think. The cam in that engine is as daily driver friendly as you could imagine and most people would consider it downright tame. A 402 with the same rwhp generally has a much more aggressive cam. A 402/408 will NOT perform in hp or torque like the 427 will when all other specs are equal. The L92 427 has a significantly larger bore than the 402/408. We can build anything the customer desires, we don't only offer straight out of the box crate engines. Lifters, crank, rods/pistons. . .it's all just options. Acting like we can't do that as well is like saying one car dealer can get you a DVD player in a new Tahoe and another can't.

So am I wrong to say that 600hp on an engine dyno will not be 600 rwhp in his fbody?
Isn't the drivetrain loss around 18% and that would be 108 wich would put him under 500rwhp with a 427... to me that would be disappointing. Am I wrong there?
You can also get a 500rwhp 402/408 that isnt a top end bitch like a 347 is. The heads make the power.
SO use 15% and its still 90 hp.
I said I would talk to someone and go by a budget and not an off the shelf engine. Shame on me. I dont care what another person does, someone asked for opinions. I gave mine. You can take my advice or leave it, matters not to me.
And I know more than you think I know. I'll leave it at that. I'm out of this thread.
oh and I use SDPC for parts all the time as well. Rumor has it I have an SOM LS7 intake coming from them this week.

Anybody that has to say "I know more than you think" obviously doesn't know much. Did you know alot of the sbf are WAY over square and make a TON of power. I think TOSTO did fine in his 4.1 stroke 421. And 6SpeedInc had a 4.10 stroke 404 or something that turned 8000rpm. That's 2 9sec cars right there. And what about Dickey's 4.1 stroke L92 based 432? that he road races with a big hydraulic roller. No replacement for displacement, I don't care how you get it.
SDPC has the best deals out there, I looked everywhere and talked to multiple builders. By the time you add the small things like covers and wiring adapters that you typically forget about, they are quite a bit cheaper. Not only that but they answer their phone and deliver product quickly.
If it's primarily a street car I would honestly go L92 heads and save a few bucks and run a small cam for driveability. If you're more max effort, run some nice cathedral heads.

Thanks for all the responses. Not looking for daily drivability. Looking for pin yo a$$ back in the seat torque and will only drive it on nice sunny days, mostly on weekends.
Not looking to race it regularly. Just want lots - o - grunt.

I'm not building mine to cruise around, so I'm going solid roller.

We are going to go big on the cam and SDPC has more then proven them selves to us
I am not saying the others are not good but I saw no problems with us kicking out over 600HP for over 13 miles in Marks car You ever want to put a Smile on an open road racers face just squeeze the throttle at 100MPH and put the tires up in smoke like we did!
Did I mention we ar going BIG on the cam? Bordering Solid territory
