Default Everett Area...Boeing

I just got a job offer from Boeing and I was just wondering if anybody on here worked for them or had any insight for me. I'm obviously considering moving out to that area and I have never been to the Northwest before so I don't really know what to expect.

Anybody have any insight about the area or working for Boeing I'd really appreciate it.

I've worked there for ~ 19 yrs now. You will have ups & downs ----> lots of OT, then worried about getting layed off, then it settles down, then back to OT. But the pay & bennies are good. What job? Which plane?

Good job, good location, excellent benefits. I got hired in 1997. It's got it's share of ups and downs, like most other places. Go for it!

If it's for the 787, run, don't walk away.

I worked there from 66 till 69. Flight test. First 737 and 747. Had a great time.
Good money and tons of overtime.
Also, had to go everywhere the plane went. Lot's of travel.

I'm coming from a job now that I was working between 30-50 hours a week plus I'm a full time student so doing some OT doesn't really bother me.

The job I got an offer for is a Methods Process Analyst in the 40-34 building. I have no idea what that building means and I also haven't found out which plane it is for yet. If those make huge differences in the job I will definitely ask those questions before accepting.

Thanks for your input, keep it coming

The 40-34 is part of the factory, probably supporting 777 by the bldg map. M&PT (which is what group I think that would be) are the folks that try to regulate / control / enforce parts & processes (in house or suppliers) meet Boeing rqmts. The trick is getting in, then you can transfer jobs later if you aren't happy.

I have 27 years with the Lazy B. Pay and benefits are not bad. Coming from Illinois you may have sticker shock on the price of things in the area. Racing season starts this weekend.

I have a house for sale about 20 minutes commute time from where you will be working - just let me know. I'll rent it out if I have to first with this stupid market up here.

I do think I will like that position but the people I interviewed with also mentioned the ability to transfer around the company. Is that something that people are actually able to do fairly easily or just something they tell you?

GEARHED: I appreciate the offer to check out the place but I am just graduating from college so I wont be able to afford too many houses. I do want to look to see if i can find anything in my price range but there is a good chance I will be starting out in an apartment.

You can transfer to another job after 6 months. Work your a$$ off in whatever job you get so people notice & your name gets around.

Very true, have had many friends spend a year+- at Boeing then up and move to somewhere they really wanted to be for better money and lower cost of living. There are also a ton of companies up here that machine and assemble parts for Boeing too - they love hiring straight into management. Some have gone to Microsoft as well so there is a lot of potential just having Boeing on your resume'.

Good luck and hope the weather is nice when you visit, sunny days here really can't be beat

They actually have a 12 month hold on new IAM members right now but you can sometimes work around it.Transferring to other jobs all depends on your qualifications for the new job, the job your are in, and the management at both.
In some instances it can be very easy to get a new job and some not so much. In my case, not so much.

I'm obviously not familiar with the area but casino rd looks to be pretty close to Boeing. Why do you recommend staying away from that area?

I got some location suggestions from GEARHD, anybody else have recommendations?

Also, I have accepted the job, thanks everybody for your input.

I used to live on 5th and Casino. It's the reason I got my .45 and my carry permit. Nice areas are East of I-5. Millcreek is really nice, but not very cheap. You can try further south to Lynnwood where I am now. Or if a short (30 mins tops) commute is ok, try Marysville. Then there's always Mukilteo which is just a bit West of the factory, waterfront, and can be $$$.
