Default Auto Transmission problems (4L60E)

Recently (6 months ago) had the Auto transmission in my daughters 95' Firebird rebuilt and today it started to act up. When moving the lever out of Park to the forward and reverse gears the lever does not lock and the location identified for being in Reverse or Neutral doesn't actually reflect what the transmission is doing. For Example. I shift into Neutral but the car is in fact still in drive. I bump the lever further forward and then it goes into Neutral. Once in gear and driving all appears normal. Any ideas as to what is happening and how I can fix this?

German Torque Joe....
Goodandtight...hahaha.
I wouldn't think they would not have to be super tight?
When I did the truck I just got them snug. Who knows maybe mine is going to start
screwing up soon.

I think they are suppose to be 9ftlbs. But just make sure they are nice and snug, and yes you can get to them from the bottom. Just jack up the car, and crawl under there.

Hey Joe I am going out of town or I would come take care of it. The bolts are real easy to get to and as you can see Crazy just did the same thing after he installed his

I am not at that place any more So I can not even go yell at the guy who installed it.

Sorry man

Not a problem Ellis. I'm going to put it on the lift when I get home tonight and get everything tightened up. I don't anticipate any issues but if I have any more questions I know I will be able to get answers here if I ask.

Hey man I know how you feel, I just spent 1500 on a brand new tranny, Installed it only a month ago, and that happened... I freaked out. lol. I called Ellis, and asked him what the problem might be and he told me the linkage was more than likely loose. So I checked and sure enough, I was actually missing a bolt and had to move one of the other bolts over to replace it, and then tighten all the other bolts. They were all only finger tight.

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice and help guys. Found 1 bolt missing and 1 loose for the cable linkage. Replaced and tightened everything down and the transmission works just fine.
