I guess the thing I got pissed about was your use of the throwing up smiley. I figured that really wasn't a needed touch to for you to voice your opinion that you don't like my car. A simple "Not my cup of tea" would have been more then adequate.

He goes and trash talks my old 94 Grand Prix with the good ol' 3100 with how slow it is, we drag race and the Grand Prix wins. I am informed after winning "ya but I can take you on the twisties!" We proceed out to my than GF's place (now wife) and I cruise through the road @ 70mph through the bends no problem. Last bend I happen to look in my rear view mirror and instead of seeing his headlights 1/4 a mile back I see TAILLIGHTS come flying around the corner... his car hits the ditch, bounces probably 2 ft in the air and gets high centered. I guess if my car was great at handling I would have been in the same spot instead of coming around the corner without breaking a sweat on what my car would do...

Fast forward four years later...

Out cruising with a buddy in my TA and he is in his GTP and he runs across a guy he ran in the past and walked in a Integra R. The guy goes on about how much faster he has made the car with gutting it and stuff and throws out the comment about taking out a Camaro earlier that week, I pipe up and ask him to run and he comes back "well its mainly a roll car, I can't get traction from a dig, anyways I would still beat your car." I shrug it off as just talk and he decides to "smoke" my friends GTP from a roll. They take off at 30MPH as I follow them and the GTP easily walks the Integra. The kid in the Integra tries to play fast and the furious driving and just does a lane change and nearly looses it. ON A FRIGGEN LANE CHANGE HE ALMOST LOOSES CONTROL OF THE DAMNED CAR. I thought these Honda's were suppose to show up Ferarri's and Porsche's and anything else out there on the tracks because they are handling machines and are the ultimate road car or something like that...

Anyway, I know you think the car is great fun and all, but to make a bold statement like "outhandle a Camaro" well... talking like a 67 Camaro right? Because last I checked a Z28/SS or TA/WS6 all pulled same numbers on the skid pad as a 350Z (another one of those best handling cars in the world) but still managed to pull faster times around tracks...

Anyway, hope you have fun with the car and learn a lot. It wouldn't be my first choice to make into my hotrod but I guess at least you will have the sleeper effect, kind of like those big ol' boat thingies called Grand Nationals.

Wow way to read what I wrote. I was more referring to 3rd gens. and the 94 Camaro which I previously owned. I am not just talking out of my *** here people. I actually have experience with different types of cars. And I have driven my friends 350Z, which is a nice handling car. And to make a blanket statement that all Honda's handle poorly because of two people is the same as a ricer saying his car out handles everything on the road (which if you read again is not what I said). You also have to remember that they may have not had the best tires... Yes tire really are the MOST important factor when it comes to traction. After that is suspension setup. Which when properly set up, a Honda does very well. It is just a plain FACT that Honda Civics and Integras have a more efficient suspension geometry when it comes to handling. Camaro's have a much better suspension geometry when it comes to straight line performance. And skid pad G's aren't the greatest test of handling prowess. You also have to look at WEIGHT transfer. I probably shouldn't have gone off like that, but I couldn't help myself. I originally created this thread to say hello to the people I knew on here. But then some people I didn't know starting posting all this crap about how much car sucks. That is the same mentality that the ricers you love to hate have.

PLEASE will a mod lock this thread if this is the only thing I am going to get out of it. Seriously, if this once great site has been taken over by a bunch of trolls like it appears to have been, I should have stayed away.

Guy I know has a 590whp, 290wtq civic. Race gas only. I believe that was on 25lbs of boost. Still can't go faster than high 11's with it. Yep smokes the tires even going into 4th gear. He's dumped more money into that motor / turbo than I've got in my whole car. I think this is his 4th shortblock, 3rd top end....they just don't seem to last too long with as hard as he's pushing it.

IMO for every 100 high hp LS based motors there's probably 1 honda motor that is built and has supporting mods to be RELIABLE.

There's a few fast civic's out there that are actually built right, reliable and run on pump gas but they're few and far between.

Just 2 years ago I had a 90 Civic EX, 5 speed. I tried like hell to get more than 30mpg out of it and couldn't do it. Driving it hard enough to actually get upto 60 before merging on the freeway and my milage dropped to 24.

There's no way you're getting in the high 400's milage wise per tank. Sorry.

I just think they're an econo box and no matter how much $$ you dump into it, or time you dump into it the car will always be an econo box.

I can understand wanting to make it fast. I have plenty of friends that are into making their rice cookers go fast.

I settled for an old volvo 850 turbo for my dd. It gets 23 mpg mixed driving, has plenty of get up and go and is comfortable as hell.

Have fun with your civic. Sweet car!

Firehawk, thanks for the words of encouragement (don't worry, I'm sincere about that). I figure I'll have fun with this little beast for now lol. It's a fun little car, and I have a blast fixing it up. And since it will be pretty cheap to work on, I will learn a lot. I am deffinetly not trying to make this into an all out race car. I will probably keep the boost dialed down most of the time, and run at about 200hp. That way I can keep it reliable. I am going to go with forged rods and some nice heat treated pistons. I will turn up the boost only at the track, and only to about 300hp (but the parts I have planned should be able to go to 400hp). Just for the reliablilty. And I also want to do a bunch of Auto-X with it. I still want to pick up another Camaro. Maybe a 3rd Gen this winter. And not drive it during the week. And on the MPG front, I actually get 360-380 miles to a tank. I have hit 40 mpg on the freeway, but I average around 30-31 combined. And with the new motor (with the boost dialed down of course) i should get slightly better. But of course I will won't, lol.

And RPILS1, that is one bitchin sedan. I just want to make a nice little, relatively fast DD out of my lil roller skate.

Yup, HID's, lol. Well I am going to try and get a set with some projectors in them this weekend. But NOT those gross halos. I just want something that looks almost stock, but with projectors.

ya that car was built for gas mileage not to put a turbo'd 4 cylinder in it that will blow up on you when your trying to hit vtec. leave it stock and use that money your saving on gas and not getting tickets to buy a new camaro

Actually the parts I am putting into it will be able to hold that boost very reliably. I am not going to run around on full boost all the time, but when I need it (like at the track) it will be there. And I never get tickets. I never did in my Camaro, because I am usually driving like a sane person. And I am not worrying about saving for a new Camaro, since I am going to buy a new one after I get out of school. I am going to finance it then, and since that is about 2 years away, it's really kinda pointless to start saving now. Plus I always have the need to be customizing a car somehow, and this is the perfect car for that. It's nice and cheap. Plus the way I see it, if hot rodders back in the day just stuck with driving their cars they way they were designed to be, none of us would be here. That is how I feel about my lil Honda, it's fun to make something go faster that wasn't meant to be.
