Default tick, tock.....boom!

So yeah, it finally happened, and believe it or not, progressive is actually helping me pay for a 12-bolt, pics were taken from phone so the quality isnt that great. We pulled the diff cover off yesterday but didnt get pics of it yet, LOTS of metal shavings inside, I've never seen so many.

friend pointing to the bolt that broke off inside:

I honestly dont know how i got them to help cover it, I told them when I called for the tow i wasnt looking to have them help pay for any of the repairs. they called me the next monday insisting to let them help. So i'll be calling Strange sometime this week . Any reputable shops in the Tacoma area I could take the car to for the swap?

I dont know how they would think that happened, they came and looked at the car(absolutely nothing wrong with the body), and i made it perfectly clear there were no other vehicles involved.

Maybe they think you bottomed out on a large rock or speed bump?

Bottom line is they get to put you in a higher risk category and charge you more in the future.

I dont see how they could possibly think i bottomed it out when they came to look at the car and saw no damage on anything else, the sway bar still has factory paint on it, no road rash anywhere on the car.

Progressive just called me, a little over 1000 is headed my way to help put towards my strange.

Why? RPM's(the North Carolina RPM, not washington) 8 second LS7 can run all day on a 12-bolt but my bolt-on LS1 cant? I hear way too many people say go with a Ford 9" instead of a 12-bolt, I don't want to deal with the frustration of things not mounting up properly, especially when I start changing suspension. Not saying there will necessarily be problems, but I've heard stories. Also nothing against the Ford 9", it's without a doubt a beast of a rear end but I feel a 12-bolt is more than enough for my purposes.

Well for 1 the 9 inch is lighter. And I have heard of people breaking there 12 bolts running in the 11's,

Not to long ago, there was a bad trend of 12 bolts ******* up. Bearings, gear's not meshin right. Lots of noise...

But hey man its your decision, I am just trying to throw that out there. Look at some of the sponsers they have some 9's that will bolt right in. Who knows a year or two down the road you will be putting out tons more hp.. Never know.

Thanks for the info, I'll take a look at the sponsors, like I've already mentioned I'm worried about the new rear end mounting up properly, I don't want to run into problems when I do upgrade suspension. The car will most definitely be putting out more horsepower down the road unless the rumors are true and the new Z28's will be a supercharged LSA .

I shattered the gears on my 12 bolt on a stock long block with cam and bolt ons making 403rwhp. I would highly suggest a 9". Call Bob at EPP he is a sponsor for the site and gets damn good deals on Moser products since they are right around the corner from his shop

You might also want to look into a Dana 60 by Strange. Supposed to be a good bit better that a 12 bolt, even Strange says it is better than their 12 bolt. If you have a manual trans, I have heard (and known people that have/had them) that say they aren't as strong as they should be.

Just another option to think about.

I am sure one or more of the sponsors here sell them.

Very true........my PERSONAL opinion is that I would prefer to know my car's rear end wasn't going to go FUBAR and live with the extra weight (or remove it elsewhere). Not everyone will feel that way, especially the people who race hard core.
