Default horsepower question

well this coming spring and summer i would like to get some more power out of my baby, my first question is, what kind of horsepower will it take to get into the elevens with my car (A4) and what is the easiest way to get to that figure without going forced induction or a new motor... would a 383 with good parts and good drivetrain get the job done? im planning building a better tranny with a 3600 stall, and 3.73 rear gears with a possible new rear end. Thanks guys

Several cars have hit low 12s with a cam & bolt-ons. You should be able to hit 11s with heads & cam if the rest of your setup is good. A stroker should get you to low to mid 11s. Then forced induction or spraying should get you into the 10s....or 9s.....or

hopefully I'll go 11s with just a few boltons this weekend (oh yeah...you might want to do some weight reduction)

so a 383 with heads, cam, bolt ons, with a little weight reduction should get me in the 11s pretty easy? especially with a good stall and 3.73s?

i think what i want to do is keep the stock inernals, add a good head/cam combo, good intake/tb, bigger stall (3600) and shift kit with a new rear end with 3.73s. the tricky thing is i wont have money to do all of it over one summer. will my stock rear hold up to the added power for a summer or so? because i wont be bringing it to college so ill only drive it for 4 months about. i want to do h/c/i, and tranny stuff this summer and next summer ill do rear end and nitrous just worried about the rear end

You sound young. Lane just said he went 11.9x with a cam and bolt ons in a car that would die on the way to Safeway if you didn't hold your tongue just right. Have fun.

I'd stick with stock internals. A 383 would likely put you into roll bar times (< 11.50 sec)

Depending on what size cam you go with. You will more than likely want to go bigger on the stall aswell... Or have a custom cam made up, that suites your stall speed.

With the h/c/i and tranny upgrades, your rearend will probably live through the summer where it is an automatic. One rearend mod that will help the stock rearend is to add a TA girdle.

I don't like breaking stuff, so why not do the rearend (the 3.73s will help) and a cam and see how far that take you. If you have money left upgrade the tranny/converter. Also, don't forget some race tires.

After all of that, if you still want to go faster add heads and nitrous.

well I had a 230/232 on a 111 with my ss3600. and they seemed to like eachother. I was only able to pull a 1.7 60ft. due to my shitty gears I had. (2.73) If you go just cam only, get some good rubber, and go with something around a 3600. Take some weight out of the car, and you should be able to hit mid 11's on up, no problem.

thanks for the input everybody, what i am kind of getting out of everyone is that a new rearend with 3.73s, cam and converter are the easiest and most cost efeective way to get into the 11s. is that about right?
