The urethane clear takes 30 days for all of the solvents to evaporate completely. If you wax it too soon it can trap the solvents in and cause problems later. Like voodoo said if its buffed and glazed after its painted its good for up to 6 months. It all depends on how often you wash it. Use good car wash soap and it won't take the glaze off.

i have always wondered this. after we paint a black vehicle and we have to take a run out or a little dryness, we will buff it out with all 3 stages of the 3M buffing compounds, and when we push it out side the very tiny scratches are still there, and recently my manager has decided to start applying a coat of wax if it does not look perfect. i hold my tongue and do what he tells me, but i cant imagine it is doing anything good for long term wise.

I have always heard about 1 month otherwise though, but as long as you dont abuse the paint in that short of a time, there should not be any reason to wax it i would think.

Personally i'm not a big fan of wax to begin with, i'll usually go over my stuff with a polish from time to time.

If you have problems its usually tiny bubbles or solvent trap. The wax seals in the solvents and doesn't let them evaporate. Im guilty of waxing too early also but like BLULS, the paint companies will tell you to wait. The glaze lets the paint still breathe and it will bead up water for alittle while. It will eventually wash off.
