Default 02 WS6 Vert hit by a tractor! A freaking hay carring tractor

Not sure as to where to post this;

So my wife is driving home when a tractor hits the side of he car knocking he off the road in to a side ditch. the car is a 02 WS6 A4 pewter metallic Vert 61k 1 or 68 with these options for this year. The drivers side mirror was knocked off cracked drivers door, dented left quarter and ripped off side of deck lid. Other side is scratched from the off roading event. The cradle and drives A-arm is bent from a culvert that it hit and the top doesn't shut quite right. All wheels are curb rashed.Other than this all is fine. No busted glass or blown air bags.

The guys insurance wants to total the car and give 15K for it. You can't replace the car for that, and they tell me that they stopped the appraisal at $11,600 because it was to much. said based off NADA that is the amount, dealers go by KBB which is $17,200, either way in the entire US when searched for one listed only 1 car with those options is avaliable and it is 21k and 1100 miles away so what gives? She didn't ask for this and never had plans to sell her car, I offered to give her my C5 and she would rather make a payment so she could have a Trans Am. Any advice on what I can do would help.

Here is a link to the damaged pics.

I cannot see a complete loss for total paint job and some body panels.

Damn, that sucks. $15k is probably more that you would have gotten if you were to sell it before the damage but it would be tough to find a car just like it.

15 sounds like a good bit more than you'd get for it, I would take insurance, part out the car and buy a new one?

taking the 15k, keeping the car and using the money to fix it gives you a salvage title at the end of the day, you need to take it to a collision shop of your choice, get an estimate and push for his insurance to pay that to fix it, i really dont see why they want to total that???????? its not that bad really,

That is what I was thinking. the body shop i picked said $10,200 his insurance said 11,600 then stopped the estimate there???? Why would they write it for more than what it could be fixed for. I am thinking they want it to auction??

That sucks but if you can get 15 for it and keep it you can part it out and make 4-5k on it.

Hell i'll buy the top if it's good condition.

Default sounds about right

A similar accident happened to my 01 ws6 last july only with a dodge duelly and progressive gave me 15860 and it cost 1800 to keep my car. Since I have bought a 99 body the same color and swapped every thing over and the 99 cost 4500 sold the engine tranny and pcm for 2200 the totaled body 250 rear end 300 the dash 200 and the rest of the interior for 250 so the repair cost 1300 and some time .

if you take the money and keep the car it will not have a salvage title. the title never changes hands. If it is turned over to the insurance co then it will be tagged salvage. Take the money, fix the car. The insurance co might report to carfax though, but who cares if you are not going to sell the car.
