Default Clear Powdercoat

I have a set of 17" 98-01 Polished WS.6 rims which I love and look killer on my car and to be honest, I do not want a different rim for the street. BUT like all rims from GM, they have a clear coat on them which over time comes off and has imperfections.

I thought about sending them out to be stripped, re-polished to a mirror finish, as well as make the inside perfect as well. Then have them re-coated.

Has anyone here done, or had done a clear power coat to their rims, not a Clear glass coat like when repainting a car. Maybe it is one in the same, but just was unsure.

Although they are good enough to be Chromed, I am not interested. So if anyone has insight on the process, please feel free to post.

Yes you can apply a clear powdercoat as opposed to a traditional clearcoat . Good call on the chrome ...chrome= . IMO of course .

JL-ws6 a close friend of mine recommends a shop in CT that can repairs rims and are VERY careful, he even allowed them to mount tires on his bogarts. I figure I can send them there, get stripped and polished, then I figure to send them to someone can Powder coat.

I figure I might contact SilverGhost, maybe hand deliver them.

Default powder coating rims

I have powder coated polished and chrome rims with good results. The powder clear is tuff and will out last automotive clear many times over. It protects the rims from brake dust, road salt, brake fluid and stone chips etc.The only downside is the clear will dull the shine some what.

^ I wonder if straight up Clear coating from a good paint source (ppg?) would let the rims keep that shine??

I stock a clear that will NOT dull the finish like most powder clears. Its made from acrylic resin and meant for this purpose. Some coaters don't know about it, or won't use it because its pricey and more difficult to master than normal powders.

I haven't put any pics of customer parts on my site with it, but here's a link to my supplier's site that I get it from with some pics. You don't even know the stuff is there, its awesome. I keep a polished aluminum part on display in my shop that I coated with it, and most customers don't believe I cleared the part when they see it.

Let me know if I can be of service, be glad to take care of it.
