Default Need Firebird Nose Removal Input

I’ll soon be removing the hood, front fenders, and nose (bumper cover) from a 99 standard Firebird. I’ve never done this before and was looking for some input. The hood and fenders seem pretty straight forward, but the nose seems a bit more involved. I’m not looking for a bolt by bolt description. Just some general input from past experiences, time saving tips/tricks, lessons learned, etc. Like, is it better to remove the headlight assemblies before you start to remove the nose? Should the fenders come off first? Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Pickup a Haynes manual at your local auto parts store. It'll have a step by step instruction on how to remove it, with all the bolt locations.

Good idea... thanks. I have a Haynes for my Jeep and motorcycle. I don't know why I didn't think of that for the Firebird.

I've heard it was a pain from several sources. Especially when putting it back on and getting everything squared up and lined up. That's why I was asking for help before I even started.

Thanks for the reply.

So it sounds like the pop up headlights are a big part of the hassle. So I'm guessing they have to come off before you can access all the nose bolts? No one had the Hanes manual in stock locally, but I did order it. Should be here next week.

Or pop them up. You have a screw behind each light two bolts/nuts bolting to the fender. Three pop in fasteners next to the latch then all of your bolts on the bottom holding all the plastic on. Dont forget to remove all of your light connectors. This is for my bumper I do not have the pop up headlights though.

remove both front wheel liners and the splash shields under the car. I think it is a bunch of 10mm bolts and some nuts with plastic push pins holding the bumper cover on. With air tools you should have the bumper off in 20 min

Took me an hour to figure out how to get it off the first time, then it takes me about 30 minutes with inadequate hand tools now..

Panel retainers in center under hood x3
Panel retainers in center bottom of bumper x3
Light connections x2 (T/A)
Bolts for air dam x4
Bolts for bottom cover x6ish?
Bolts for bumper rail x4 (2 per side.. just get in there and look around.. they're about mid-way up)
Screws for headlight covers... the plastic covers x6
Bolts for fenders-bumper tab x2

Thanks guys. You've helped me save a lot of time and probably some aggravation with these details.

Thanks again.
