Classic Industries has the sail panel in their current catalog under part number G4545 and G4546, I called them wanting more information and the sales rep said it has been on back order since 2003.

I'll email them for more info.

I'm not to worried about it being carbon fiber as the piece isn't very heavy as it is. I just want a quality replacement that is affordable. If someone were to offer that, we would be better off than when GM still offered panels.

Anybody thought about just laying vinyl over it?

You would think someone who knew how to get these off junk cars would throw them on ebay. I've been looking for a new one for a while. I heard GM still has the die for the part, wonder how much they would charge a company to get that from them.

I didn't think it was possible to remove the panel intact.

Some people have done it with piano wire. I don't think it would be possibile to do this with a hardtop though.

I doubt it too...but after seeing some of the tools my friend Eric who does windshields and other glass uses, I bet he could remove the roof without damage.

I tried it. I have not seen any windshield removal tools that are long enough to reach the glue. Also where the t-tops meet the panel there's a lip that would be very hard to get past.

People who have done it, any tips? I have a roof and panel in my backyard but need to get them apart ahah

if you have cut the metal portion of the roof off the car,its going to be almost impossible to separate.
You need it attached so you have something to hold it in place while cutting.
I wish you luck its not going to be easy

I ll see if I can find the pictures of hardtop I cut off. It shows where the glue is(doesnt mean they all would have glue in same spots tho)

Now for some updates - I contacted Classic Industries via e-mail and this is their response:
Part G4545 is an order-by-demand part. We do not keep this part in house. Once paid for, an order will be placed with our vendor to obtain this part. It normally takes 2-4 weeks for arrival to our warehouse. This part is priced at $1030.99 and requires truck freight for delivery. To receive a quote for a shipping cost, please call (800) 854-1280.
So - of course I was not happy with that price, so I contacted 6LE about it, I will not disclose the actual quote from e-mail, but it would be about half of what Classic Industries wants, BUT, they would need pre orders to actually make a production run at the sail panel, which brings me to this:

People, if you want 6LE to make sail panels, please e-mail them and let them know.

Hey there is a thread on here where a guy bought a carbon fiber one for his trans am. He was the cop everyone made fun of, couldn't type for s***. it was really recent that I read it, I forget what forum, prlly appearance. I don't think he ever told us the seller, just that it was on eBay. He also used the name for the corvette part, moon panel or whatever they call their equivalent

Yes - almost all LS1 F-Bodies, for more information look in the sticky above.

Essentially, GM screwed the F-Body Owners b/c they knew about the issue with the Technical Service Bulletin instead of making a recall. Then wanting to charge owners over 800 bucks to get a factory replacement panel for the only fix available - a full replacement of the panel.

The interest is definitely there. Someone just needs to make it happen.

Guys, lets try to keep all these posts and info in the sticky thread above. 6LE (sponsor) is now involved, and has posted an offer in the sticky thread. Please check the last page of that thread for the details.

Here is a direct link to said thread and page: https://ls1tech.com/forums/paint-bod...thread-71.html

Thanks.
