ZR1 Theme on a 4th gen
I got some body work ahead of me, and I'm thinking while I'm at it I'll add some ZR1 styling to my Camaro before I do the LSX swap. Thinking about adding a Polycabonate insert to the hood and some custom badges from Hawk's 3rd Gen. Use a Hugger Orange/Black combo for paint and black out the C-5 rims I have and I think it should look pretty good.
Just want to know what you guys think, and if you have any ideas to help with the ZR1 look

Been thinking more about the idea, and this is how I'm planning to do the hood. This Z/28 hood is all fiberglass, so will be easier to modify for an insert than my stock steel one. Fit the insert over the engine, paint the raised portion of the hood black with the rest being hugger orange with the car. Maybe even add some back lighting that can be turned on with the hood closed, should show off my engine rather nicely.

You could use a router on a shape cut piece of lexan to contour the edge to sit like it does in that pic of the vette hood. Some liquid nails or windshield glue would hold it in place along with some screws or rivets. I'd tossed that idea around for the WS6 hood, just two longer sections. Sweet ideas man. Lets see em made into some awesome action!

I'm doing my car in stages (just don't have the budget to do it all at once) and I'm starting off with body work. I really like the looks of the new ZR1 vetts, so I want to make mine look, handle, and take off like a ZR1 with a back seat
After body work I'll do up the front supension and brakes. Then the rear end with brakes. Wheels and tires. Transmission then engine then mount them both (so up until this stage, my polycarbonate insert will be showing off a 3.4L V-6). Then finally do the interior as I re-wire the entire car.
I want to finish my "ZR1ish Camaro" in about 5-7 years, and spend about $10,000.00-12,000.00 over all. I should be able to do this doing all the work myself, and just taking my time. Build threads will be posted

This idea is for the exhaust tips.....
I would do it by having the 2 pipes that usually exit seperatly feed into a larger chamber, then weld up 8 corvette exhaust tips to the chamber. It would let me have a 4-5" exhaust set-up, but hide it with what will look like 8 seperate pipes.

Big negative on the exhaust. You don't need a 4-5 inch exhaust anyway! 3 is PLENTY! Run the exhaust out the side like the Viper through a sideskirt to hide the undermount, just so you can see the tip!

Sorry, but this just has epic fail written all over it.
To me it sounds like you don't really know what your doing are how your gonna do it. A GM 14 bolt? Really? Whats wrong with a 9" or a 12 bolt, or even a S60? Not gonna be strong enough for 600hp?

I'm getting serious enough about the "ZR1" theme that I'm starting an outline of what I want with the body work. Starting on that 1st since it will be the most involved work for me, and way easier to paint right with the engine removed. I'm not to worried about paint scratches, I'm careful and would be the only one doing them.
I'm still waffling on drive train, lots of solid combinations to pick from but I will want something just a tad different. The 14 bolt is an interesting option to me. It's GM, it's very solid, Truetrac is avalible for it, easily had in my area with rear disc, and 8 lug rims on some wide rear tires might look good.
Either way, haven't made up my mind fully yet. I'm still building my budget and researching. I'll make up my mind by this spring when I start buying parts....

Oh yea, that'll look real good. I was just saying the other day that there should be more f-bodys running around with 8 lug rims.

Heres my photoshopped idea of a ZR1 theme on a 4th gen Camaro . Its kinda pretty damn tricky to properly pull this off with the 4th gen body sucessfully . IMO theres nothing on the market thatll do the trick , so your left fabbing .

Honestly my engine set-up is up in the air. I'll most likely keep it simple and go N/A like I have in the past, but I would like to end up with 600+ hp. Not easy to reach with N/A, so a power adder is very likely.

I may be totally wrong, and if so, sorry! But, I don't see how a build like this is possible for 10-12k. The only things I have done to my car are basic bolt-ons, cam, and wheels and I'm at the 4k mark. A 600+hp N/A ls motor is going to cost 10k I would imagine, and if you decide to go with a power adder, anything other than the jug is going to be in the thousands also.
I'm not putting down on your build at all, I hope it all comes out great as you do have some great ideas. I'm just thinking about the overall picture. Motor, tranny, rear, wheels, body... 10k will be gone in a second, even if you are doing the work yourself.

I keep my cost down but doing my own work, fabbing when I can make it myself instead of buying new (like headers), and bargin hunting through sources like craigslist or a swap meet. I did pick up a complete set of C-5 Corvette rims for $300. On my truck I found a BW 4472 for $100 at a swap meet. I've got a garret 65mm turbo I bought from a buddy who crashed his ride for $50. Take your time and look, there is always a deal if you look long enough.
Down side, sometimes you end up compromising. Say I really want an LS3, but I'm not finding them for less than 3k. But I find an LY6 for $400 with everything, I would probably change my plans and go LY6. Having a nice tool set-up goes a long way too, I've spent more on them over the years than I will on this car.
Bolt ons always get a project done fast, but you do pay for convenience. I'll hold out for a bargain if I can find it. I think with my time line, and the deals I've had in the past in my area, 10-13k doesn't sound that outragious.
