Awesome thread, thanks for the pics and updates. Best of luck!
Please, any color but silver!! It's on 90% of all cars on the road now! White with some blue pearl? Anything but silver after all this time and effort on such a nice ride.

got some paint sprayed this weekend.
I started off going over the front bumper, filled the grille holes and the emblem recess, I sure hope they stay in there!
I layed out the parts, washed with wax and grease remover, then scrubbed them down with red scotchbrite and soapy water. Let them dry, resprayed with w&g remover, and started mixing paint.
First off, I sprayed all the plastics, front fenders and bumper covers, with adhesion promoter, 2 coats.
Next up I sprayed 2k primer, for all paint products I used Kirkers new Black Diamond low-voc product. This stuff was super easy to use and layed down great.

Next up I sanded all the parts with 400 grit by hand, and followed up with red and grey scotchbrite.
Then came the basecoat, the color is Quicksilver Metallic, and I layed 2 medium coats and a final light coat to make sure the flake was set even and there was no stripes

After this, I mixed up the clear. Overall I used 3/4 of a gallon on these parts, so I need to pick up another can this week. Now bear in mind I have never sprayed clear before, and nobody was helping me, so this was pretty difficult. First off I sprayed way too light and the first coat was very rough, I tried adjusting my gun and such with some small improvement. Finally I came to the conclusion that I basically had to lay this **** on as thick as I can without it running to cover up my first coats. Anyway I did pretty good but did get some runs and will have some sanding to do this summer. THEN, imagine this, soon as I got done i was admiring my work and 4 mosquitoes landed on that ****. ****, oh well!

So, in conclusion to this part of the project, I learned a pile of stuff about painting today, I could have done alot better but I was also extremely tired. I LOVE this color its exactly what I wanted, the paint was easy to use and sprayed well, I recommend it.

I always lay down a semi-wet coat and let it tack for a min and then lay it on as thick as you can without getting any runs. It definitely takes some practice but its not too bad. What gun are you using? What tip?
If I were you, I would tack it down and lay another couple thick coats on. It'll give you extra room in the future for paint correction too.
