Default Anyone molded a scoop onto a hood?

Has anyone molded a cowl or hood scoop onto a stock hood? Don't wanna payout for a new hood and the stick on look is too amateur.

Please don't reply and say,"just buy the whole hood"

I have but to be honest it took so much time & effort that I'm not completely convinced it was worth it. I ended up selling it a few years later for a sunoco.

Someone could ask which cam to put in their car and if you posted that picture ^^ I wouldn't be mad. Sick car man, just incredible.

Without any past experience, it just seems easy to stick the scoop on with some bondo and sand it in....but I know it isnt.

I need a cheap SS hood!

Put a 65 GTO hood scoop on my 65 Grand Prix hood and haven't had any problems but that was welded on.

both of these are stock hoods that were cut and welded into custom hoods by one of my good friends...

So I don't see why you couldn't mold a scoop in too..but Like McNord said above there is a TON of time and labor in something like that... These hoods have well over 100 hrs in them....

I've got one of those scoops sitting in storage brand new I'll sell cheap if you want it.

I was going to use it for a custom shaker but it is WAY too huge...

if your looking at a cost point then i would jjust call around to a bunch of bodyshops first to see what they would charge to do so, and i would even ask how they were going to do it and report back to us to make sure theyre not just gonna hack it on there. ive seen good molds and ive seen bad molds

if you do, just make sure the scoop and hood are similar materials, ie: steel scoop welded onto steel hood, fiberglass scoop 'glassed onto fiberglass hood, etc

I have yet to see a fiberglass/steel combo that didnt separate or start wrinkling the paint after a few weeks/months of use

See above. Mine was a glass scoop & a steel hood, no issues with cracking in the 4 years I ran that hood.

The "SS" hood has a lot of buried ductwork to bring
the air back around to the airbox. Putting a scoop
on like you suggest, would lack that functionality.

Once upon a time I added a scoop to a carbed vehicle.
I pop-riveted steel to steel and then glassed it in.
Looked craptastic.

I countersunk sheet metal screws in & then fiber glassed over that.
