The need for a quality gun is really just relative to the amount of time and work you want to spend making up for it after everything is sprayed. Here is the way I look at it: You are going to spend more money on sand paper, electricity running equipment, pads, blocks, compound, and PAINT by not using a quality gun. $400 out of the $1300 of the materials you paid for can potentially be wasted by a gun with bad transfer. I know from experience that that HF will produce a decent (for the price) finish. But it will waste a lot of paint doing so. Which is why the..... hmhmmhmh EVO hmmhmh... is worth the $100. Being an LVLP, it transfers MUCH better and will produce a finish requiring less work to perfect AND require a fraction of the air an HVLP does. Of course if you did this on a daily basis the resulting loss would grow exponentially. But at any rate, that's my $.02. I use the HF for small parts that won't be cut/buffed. Best "house" brand gun made, IMO.

Let me know your thoughts....
Well I've already bought everything (gun, paper, compounds, etc.) or else I would really consider getting one. I've heard great things about it so I don't think going through the hassle of rebuying and replanning everything would be worth any improvement I would get. As you said, it is really going to just affect how much time and effort is spent after spraying. And to be honest, I have already spent WAY too much money so far and want to do anything I can to avoid spending any more unless absolutely necessary. But I do appreciate your opinion

I'm the type of person that is willing to work longer and harder in order to save just a few bucks. But If I thought it would have any affect on the finished product, I would get a different one. But I really don't think I'm "cheaping out." I think it's a great gun and will give great results. Just my $.02 though.

Not sure if you read my earlier post, but I'm doing two rounds of painting. And if the first round doesn't come out perfect, I'll get a better gun just for you two

So what is your paint scheme exactly?

Not sure what you mean by paint scheme but it's just a basic black with painted in decals. I'm going to shoot the red and silver on the hood and filler panel then put on the decals (I had custom paint masks made that are the same as the decals) then shoot the black, pull the masks, shoot clear.

As for the actual procedure, I'm going to do 2-3 coats base (until fully covered), 2 wet coats clear, sand with 1000, 2 more wet coats, sand with 1200 then 2000, then buff using Meguiar's M10532 Ultra Cut Compound then Meguiar's M20532 Ultra Finishing Polish. As for the pads being used, I have three different ones (cut, polish, and finish) foam pads and will have to see what works (starting with least aggressive first of course). I decided not to go with the cutting compound recommended by my jobber cause It's a "budget" line and buffing compounds are important enough and cheap enough to not skimp on.

LMAO, It is up to you if you choose to use a $19.99 paint gun, but please do not call it a great gun and expect to get great results. There is a reason good guns are several hundred dollars.

Sounds like a plan Stan. I agree.

As far as wetsanding and compound goes, I have the combo to get the perfect result all with a rotary polisher. Be careful around hard edges this entire process. Tape them up and all the plastic stuff. Wet sand 1500/2000. 3M Perfect It 3000 Extra Cut Rubbing Compound, make sure it's the 06060 one. Use that with a wool pad at about 1500 rpm. Menzerna SIP (Super Intensive Polish) with a 6.5" LC orange pad at 1800 rpm. Menzerna Micro polish with a 6.5" LC white pad at 1800 rpm. The paint will now look perfect. Carefully wash the car to get all the residue off or wipe down with rubbing alcohol. Follow with 2 coats of Zaino Z2 then 2 coats of Z5 for a even deeper look.

I didn't think you were suppose to wax a new paint job. Is the Zaino different?

Thanks but I already bought compounds (check several posts up). But if that doesn't work I'll give your method a try

I knew I was forgetting something. You can wetsand and compound it with a wool pad and let it be for a month or so. You can put a glaze on the paint without a problem for the time being. It will probably look better than a new car already. After a month, that is when I did the final 2 steps in polishing then waxing.

Orange peel is not as bad as it looks.

Thanks. That plastic was an absolute b*tch to get up. But it is working great. I have almost no dust in the air now.

Do you mean when? If so, I'm hoping for it to be completely done in about a week. I realized a couple days ago that I only have 2 weeks left before I have to go back up to school so I've been putting in 12 hour days since
