He might have meant how some Ford cars have big pieces of paint that come off. I know the Crown Vic's are bad about that.

You ask any one who has painted for a long *** time they all say that ford on the line waits to long from the prime to paint stage. If you dont sand after prime the paint wont stick. Thats also why people who fix dents wont glue pull fords because the paint will come off.

Car manufacturers use electrostatic paint similar to powdercoating not the same process as we use when repair n repainting them the problem they have is usually a bad batch of materials or if they redo a area due to imperfections in the paint or something, the primer is also put on electrostaticly n their paint is formulated to go on without sanding the primer n the paint is put on electrostatic also n baked at temps we can't do in paint booths. The older cars may be different, but they have been useing this method for awile now. Not being a smart *** just sharing what I've know.
When we repair cars we have to sand in several steps to assure adhesion n proper repair.

You still have to sand it because the primer is smooth. Sanding gives it texture so the base coat has something to grip.

When you spray sealer you don't sand it before you spray base on it. That's why you have a certain time frame you have to spray base on it. If you go past the time you have to scuff it up and respray the sealer then spray the base.

I realized I need to upgrade Firefox. I was using 3.6 and they are up to like 7 now.

Car is getting wet sanded today and should buff it tomorrow. To anyone who says 3 grand is what it costs to paint a car has obviously never done it, well not correctly anyway.

Looks fantastic. One question did you have to add anything to the paint for the flexable parts? I remember using something like that when I painted my 79 T/A 20 years ago. I didn't know if this was already in certain paints or you still added it.

Thanks.

Yeah I used the PPG flex agent in the clear coat.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I hate wet sanding by the way.
