Default Replaced my sail panel

Pretty straightforward swap.. Total time invested about an hour... Put a panel off a 95 on and used Pro Grip to hold it in place.. I've never attempted any type of bodywork, glad I gave it a go.. Turned out very nice and saved $400 by replacing it myself..

Nice job man, how did you get the sail off the 95 without destroying it?

Funny story.. Went to a local junkyard cause I remembered they had a 95 sitting right by the office.. I asked them to just cut that section off and I would remove the panel later.. They said Hell No, we aren't cutting that off(rest of the car is complete junk) but we'll remove it for $60.. I told them how it had to be taken off, they said no, just a few screws hold it on.. Told them again they needed some kind of wire saw to cut it off, again they said nope, just screws.. After I left they figured out I was right and used a wire saw to remove it, took them over 3 hours.. They were so pissed when I came to pick it up, I almost thought they weren't going to give it to me.. I just kept thinking, **** you I told you from the beginning how it had to come off.. Anyway, worked out good for me!!

For those who want to know the best way to get one off without damaging it quick is using a Heat Inductor, it heats up the metal and lets the urethane break loose, makes a little smoke and heat but you wont damage the panel.

I told them at the junkyard to, also, use a heat gun... But did they listen? Dummies.....

I need to attempt this in winter when it gets cold again lol. What do you reccommend to heat the panel? Just a heat gun? And are you heating the metal panel from the inside of the car?

The heat inductor is basically an electro magnet which only heats up the metal, so there is no damage to the sail panel like you would get using a heat gun, just google heat induction and you will find the tool, i use it all the time at work.

Looks great....I have GOT to do the same thing. I'm so tired of looking at the friggin acne on mine. I've made 3 attemps so far this year and have yet to have success removing one from a junkyard. The price was right though, I may try it again. One place told me $40 and another told me $15 if I could get it off. My next step is to buy a wrecked car and saw the entire top off. That way I can work on it a little at a time in my garage.

Gotta think about the heat....that's a great idea. Anybody ever thought about if there's some release agent for the adhesive?

Piano wire worked great for me. Just side it under the bottom and saw. The bottom of the panel is the hardest because you have to saw against the glue. Good luck
