I have to do this too, my fenders are like this.
I mean, yeah, it LOOKS like a pinch weld, but with the unibody just a few inches back, I don't know why anyone would lift on that.
Mine are pretty bad, on the drivers side the fender has actually broken a bit and has seperated from the part bolted to the bracket. Some epoxy or something may be in order. Maybe some sheetmetal screws would do the trick, although I hate to drill into it.

Ok, I know this is only, oh about 2 years old, but I have a question about the gap. Is this caused by the bent tab on the bottom, and which way should the tab be, parallel to the car or perpendicular to it? The reason I ask is because the Drivers side has no gap, but is parallel, while the passenger side is about 45 degrees right now.

This has happened to me soooo many times. EVERY shop I have ever had my car in (new tires, everything, every time) has done this. I refuse to let anyone work on my car anymore. When I get new tires I am putting the car on jack stands and taking the wheels to a tire shop in the other car. My part DID break on one side. I had to make a doubler to repair it. Not to worry those who are concerned - it has to be bent back and forth quite a few times to break.

I have a lift at my house and a couple times when I was changing the oil I looked at how the fender was mounted to try and do something about this same situation but never really dug into it. I thought it would be a bit of a nightmare. Glad I saw this. Consider me subscribed and attempting.
