Default paintimg without a booth...

What would you guys reccomend for trying to paint a car.at.home without a paint booth? I dont want dust in my paint job. Or should I just do.the.bodywork myself to lessen the.cost of a professional job?

Even in the best of paintbooths there will be "trash" or debris in the paint.. dont freak out while spreaying it will transfer through the coats and into the clear.. then it can be wetsanded out.. i just painted my car in a big garage i own.. with the exception of breathing in too many fumes and spending 2 days High as a kite it wasnt that bad.

Water based paint is pretty shitty. We use it in my shop and it has no filling qualities, takes forever to dry between coats, and is way too expensive for what it is.

I've been painting for about 15 or so years and have only been in a booth a handfull of times for jobs I was contracted for.

The key to a decent paint job in a home garage IMO is cleanliness, make sure everything is blown off of dust and wet down the floor as previously mentioned, make sure you have good airflow (puller fans) to get rid of the overspray, and lastly you need to be able to regulate your temperature in the garage.

There's alot of other things to consider like a good compressor, regulator, water trap, and a decent gun as well.

Combine what everyone said here, mostly its about cleanliness. I'm sure as hell no pro painter. I just did this in my garage this week, and I used a harbor freight touch up gun!!! After a good wetsand and buff it looks like glass. You're going to get dirt in your paint either way, just try to limit it. Best of luck man. I say go for it!

Just use PPG deltron, PPG Global, Dupont Chromabase, or dupont ChromaPremiere and you wont have any issues.. also make sure EVERYTHING YOU BUY is from the same company.. i learned this the hard way.. cheeped out on the sealer and now i have to strip it and redo everything... part of the reason i hate sealer with a passion

Sealer is great thing if you use the right items and the right amount. It is also a crucial step with some colors. Dont blame the product when it was you that messed up
