I looked at a few old threads and everyone has a different opinion i cant find a different part number for a trans am vs a firebird formula hood so i dont know if there is any difference in pressure. Id hate to break a new hood

Since the fiberglass hood is much lighter it has more pressure from the factory struts pushing up against what it thinks is still a steel hood. I've seen a few hoods that have stress cracks because they didn't buy new struts. I have seen some people use only one hood strut or even a hood prop, but I think that looks tacky. Better to be safe than sorry. Just my opinion, but I wouldn't want to crack a $500 hood.

When the hood is down the struts aren't doing anything. I have to lift up on the hood still to open it, doesn't seem like too much pressure on it, guess i will find out

I think the closing of the hood is the whole thing that makes the stress cracks appear. I think im going to try the stock struts and see how it opens and closes, if its too hard than ill just buy some weaker ones.

I think the trufiber is a little heftier than the vfn too, it weighs more.
