Default i think i need a window regulator

my driver side window goes up and down very well but when putting it up the window will flop into the car and if I have it down half way I can take the window and slide it forward and backwards I have heard the window regulator holds the window in place for that just getting opinions before I order one

The regulator only controls up and down motion, it does not affect back-to-front alignment. What controls that is the channel. The channel is attached to the window and has a single roller on it that fits into a vertical alignment channel. The roller is prone to ripping out of the channel itself, which may be your issue. Pull the door panel off and have a look.

I have the same problem on my T/A, it's most likely the roller as stated above. I haven't gotten a chance to replace mine yet, as they are discontinued by GM and aftermarket, so the only source is a used one. So, I've just been dealing with it in the meantime lol.

Yes, a few aftermarket companies like Help! and Dorman have made them, but discontinued them for some odd reason. The previous owner of my T/A used a bolt and couple flat washers in place of it, or tried to at least. It didn't work out so well, and has since been removed. I'll have to try to pick up one or two at the boneyard, if I find a good extra I'll let you know.

I made my own by buying a bolt and grinding it down.

Its amazing some of these little parts are not made by Year One yet.
