Undercarriage
Hello. I am new to LS1 tech. I have a 2001 Trans AM. I was wondering what the best options would be or opinions on undercarriage care/ detailing. I was curious, I planed on using rustoleum paint after of course purple powering the underneath. does undercoat even really work better? It seems like a messy way of doing it?

looking for a factory off the assembly line look I have heard of the POR15 I think for the amount of driving I do its not needed I think the rustoleum would be a good choice. I was wondering who has went with the undercoating route vs. painting what looks better.

"factory of the assembly line look" would just be to clean it up and leave it, as these cars come painted flat whatever body color you have on the underside.
You can see here what one looks like all cleaned up (obviously all the red pieces are aftermarket)
Painting or doing and undercoat would be a massive pain in the *** in my opinion, especially if you don't have a lift to put the car on.

Painting the undercarriage is definitely a pain in the ***. You will need to remove the rear end, driveshaft, transmission, etc in order to get the whole area. The only thing i didn't pull was the gas tank. I used a couple coats of rust bullet, followed with semi gloss black rustoleum, and used 3m body schutz in the wheel wells.

Just bought one that you can tell was driven in snow and salt. I sanded the rust down best I can with out causing any holes or weak spots. Bought a gallon of POR15 and went to town with a paint brush.
Its a pain doing it on your back but worth it.
