2000 ss paint questions
Hey guys, quick question I recently acquired a pretty clean stock SS. I've switched the wheels and exhaust out sense. However, the only real blemishes on the car are paint flaws. Specifically around the opening on the ram hood, and some bubbles on the rear spoiler. I know from the research I've done that SLP may not have had the best quality control/prep. Either way any insight on if this looks like a issue with the gel? Or simply just bad pealing? I'm thinking of getting the mantis design painted on and getting that touched up if that's the case. Any help would be great!!!

I have the same paint code WA8774 on my car. I have never experienced peeling on my SS hood but the SS spoiler did have bad clear coat peeling. I eventually sold the SS wing and bought the McNord wing. My car sits outside all day. I'm actually surprised you don't have more evident peeling of the roof. My roof is bubbled like a teenager with acne.

Yah I had read that some of them did. I guess my real question is does repainting fix this? If not I may have to go with the SS 3in cowl hood from vfn. I just don't wanna repaint to have it bubble again. I'm assuming faulty prep work?

I still have the VHS tape around here somewhere in which they show the parts being installed at the SLP LaSalle assembly plant in Canada. The SS was not even included in the GM advertising budget. All of the promotion and driving events to get people behind the wheel of an SS were handled by SLP.
Here's a link to a vid that shows the 2001 and has video of the GM people saying SLP is responsible for development and installation and also shows the LaSalle assembly plane and parts going on.

The hood and spoiler were not installed on the GM assembly line, those were installed by SLP, even in the LS1 years.

If you're worried about poor adhesion from the factory then the only option to be sure it's fixed and done right is to fully strip the panels in question. They will get fully striped, primed, blocked, prepped, painted. Depending on prices of new panels, it may be cheaper or at least faster to buy a new replacement panel. In my area were $44/hr for labor and stripping the hood and spoiler youre probably looking at an average of 10 hrs, then youre still looking at paint labor and materials and cost associated with detrimming and of course blending for the paint to match perfect. Best thing to do is go get a few estimates from different bodyshops

I have a 2000 SS that I bought new. White. Around 2012 the clearcoat on SLP hood and spoiler started to bubble. Life got in way and nothing was done about it.
It looked like crap and dirt was trapped between paint and clearcoat. Yesterday I power washed hood and spoiler. It looks 100% better. Took 90% of the clearcoat off.
About 10 minutes ago I got a quote to repaint them both for $400.
I was looking around here to see if that sounded fair. Anyone?

My Black 00 SS paint is ****. Don't think I can say it's just SLP as my quarter panels have peeling clear coat as well but my hood and spoiler were noticeably worse. Although it has sat out in the CA sun and spent the first 3 years of its life 200 yards from the ocean.
