I just settled on a 2003 Silverado that was considered totaled because it needed a new box/tailgate and rear bumper. I replaced the box and bumper for $300 and pocketed almost $4,000
As far as the title in concerned, It would still be a clean title unless they take the car and sell it at auction, The auction houses here have to do a damage discloser and file it with the DOT as required by law, The state then certifies it as a salvage vehicle.
