Default scratch/scrape fix needed

Is there a way to fix this? It doesn't go through the paint, but can't tell if it goes through the clear coat.

If your fingernail gets stuck in the scratch, it probably can't be buffed out.

Like said above if it's through the clear no.

But to me judging from a zoomed in view of the picture it looks like a wide superficial scratch and a good chance it can be wet sanded and polished out

Looks like a scuff to me also. On top of the professional ways to color sand & buff it out, you could probably get it off by hand with a cotton or microfiber rag wrapped over a finger or thumb with a few drops of compound. Anything with just a little grit to it, could be just cleaner wax or a clearcoat safe buffing compound or a metal polishing compound labeled safe for paint.

Clearcoat will turn white when lightly scuffed. No big deal if just that.

OK, great suggestions. I'm scared of trying to color sand it, probably end up with a big patch that's dull looking, I tried to do that on something else and never could get it to full glossiness, this is not one of my skills. Maybe try polish next.

if its deep, get some good touch up paint and carefully put a few coats or how ever many it takes to get where the scratch is higher then the existing clear. Then use some 2500 wet sand paper on a small rubber block and lightly sand it until its level. no circles, just one direction back and forth, then buff it out with some rubbing compound.

I was thinking of something like that, but using clear not paint, would that work?

as long as your positive the base isnt scratched. Ive had good luck fixing big ships and deep scratchs with that method I described just using touch up paint.

I just repaired a super deep and wide scratch just like super mentioned above and it turned out great. I overbuilt it with touch up and wet sanded it flush with 3,000 grit paper. I soaked the sandpaper beforehand and kept the surface lubed with soapy water. Go slow and use your fingers to gauge flatness. It will look worse before it looks better, just need to accept that before you start. After you get the touch up paint flush, use rubbing compound to remove sanding scratches. I tried to put some clear coat over the touch up paint for good measure but it contrasted with the stock clear coat, so I removed it with some abrasive polish and a heavy cutting pad on my PC7424. Good luck!

Little late to the party, but it can be fixed. This is how I fixed the whole side of my camaro that was keyed years ago: DIY Car Scratch Repair

It worked very well. I did this guide years ago but it mimicks quite a bit of what many people on here are saying as well. My scratches were deep.
