Default ‘00 Z28 Sail Panel

I think a new sail panel might be the next big purchase for my Camaro because mine has the bubbles. For those that have purchased new ones where did you get it? I did a quick search and I saw one from LE Designs and one from MAGG Performance? Are either of these two any good? MAGG costs more. Are there any other places I should look?
Also, what’s the paint code for the black Z28 tops? Is it a gloss? Thanks in advance. MAGG Performance

The paint code is the same as for the cars that were painted entirely black (same gloss level), RPO 41U, code #8555

Haven't heard too many reviews about the (current) aftermarket panels in terms of fitment. There have been a couple of good reviews mentioned in the massive sticky thread about this, but just not a ton of data to go on.

I bought a carbon fiber sail panel from Magg, it took 3 weeks to deliver. Well packaged and in good condition. The carbon weave appears to have depth. It was expensive and later found Iroc motorsports has the same panel for $300 cheaper.

Fitment is to be determined as I’m installing it this weekend but the test fitment looked good. I got tired of the bubbles.

I saw the one on IROC and when I was googling earlier. I went and looked at their site again just now and I saw that their non painted fiberglass option was $550. They say made in the USA so I may go with them. I wish they offered one that was painted and ready go other than the carbon one because I’m wanting to keep it stock. I imagine I’ll have over $1k in it after I have one painted and put on. Have you replaced one before? What are you going to use to get the old one off? Let me know how it goes if you don’t mind. I’d it’s easy I may give it a try myself. I’m no body man though.

i removed the sail panel a few months ago using a dremel and shop vac. I’ve seen a few different methods but dremel worked best for me.

You’ll need for installation
Caulk gun
2-3 bottles of 3M 08690
2 cans of 2k epoxy primer
You have to spray paint the bottom of the new panel. Use both cans even though it looks like you only need one. Allow paint to cure for 24-48hrs depending on temp.

Remove most of the old adhesive but not all.
You’ll need a helper for install
The adhesive drys fast, ya might have 2-4 minutes to install and line up before the adhesive hardens

Start of removal
At first I did the pry method, but it dented and scratched the sheet metal, I didn’t like that.
Dremel 👍

^ I typically don't like the carbon fiber look on these, but it actually seems to work quite nicely with the SOM paint above.

Post some pics when it's complete.

Used the torch to heat the scrapper, made removing the adhesive super easy. You have to reheat the blade pretty often. I also sharpened the scrapper before I started. Ended up cutting it down to the width of the adhesive. Also I tapped off all the rubber gaskets, seals and covered paint where mistakes could be made.

Started working on it but got wicked sick suddenly and had to go lay down for the weekend.

hopefully this coming weekend I won’t get sick and I can finally install this thing.

I just took delivery of the MAGG Performance sail panel and it arrived warped and cracked in places. The body shop I took it to thought they could fix the cracks and deal with the warp in the glueing process. Unfortunately the part is thicker than OEM and therefore is slightly shorter than the OEM product, resulting in either uneven body gaps, or shorter than the original on both sides. Additionally the triangle where the appliquι goes is too thick and the OEM triangle appliquι has to be trimmed to make it work.

Communication with the MAGG Performance people has been awful without a single email returned. The carbon fiber version might be better? I don't know. At this point if the carbon fiber version fit better, then I'd go with that one and paint it.

There is information pertaining to the service of 6LE Design, Magg Performance and the now name transformed Iroc Motorsports in this forum and its not good. All the names just point to the same guy I think from what I have read on here. I haven't bought anything from them so I cannot speak from experience. I am desperate for a hardtop and am avoiding them due to the reviews given. Honestly it seems like buying from them is a crap shoot. Some people have had good luck, others your experience.

I believe this is the thread you're referring to:
