Can someone please tell me the TSB number? I need it for tomorrow when I go to the dealership.

I went to the dealer here in Morehead City, NC to have them look at mine. They made a copy of the TSB that I printed from this thread (Thanks!!) and they took some pictures and said they would call me tomorrow.

Also, the clear coat on my bumper (shelf) has MANY pin holes in it and you can see it won't be long, it'll start to peel. I showed them that too ... I told them that I wanted that fixed as well. We'll see!! (BTW .. the car has 47K on the odo .. not that it should matter)

I got a lot of good info on this site as well as off the net .. I plan to get as far as I can with GM to see what they'll do for me. I'll keep y'all posted!

 

As stated earlier in the thread, its best to try confronting a good reputable dealer first. When you go in knowing your info, make a solid case and theyll see that its a problem they should handle. Theyll give a call to GM and get the ball rolling. If you approach the Service reps first your likely going to get hastled. A rep wont argue as much with a dealer, and a dealer possibly wants your future business.

To give you an example, The dealer i went to (their repair shop that is) did my repair no questions asked. I have since repaired two cars (one of the jobs was over $6K) and had them paint 2 bumpers. Had they said no to my sailpanel, they would have lost ALL of my business. Give a little...get a little. You just have to find those kinds of people. Goodluck guys.

 

A service bulletin just tells the tech the suggested repair method and what materials to use, it does not mean there is a recal and your car will be fixed for free.

 

Don't let this threads title fool you. I'm guessing you didn't read it all? We've already established it's not a recall. This problem is considered a latent defect and GM knows about it. Body and paint DEFECTS are coverd up to 100K miles or 6 or 7 years (I forget) starting from the time the car was sold.

 

I have read it all and have posted numerous times in this thread. I used to work for a Chevy dealer and have personally done the replacements several times. A lot of people think that because there is a service bulletin then GM admits its a problem and it will be covered under warrenty. Just stating that a warrenty bulletin and a service bulletin are entirely differnt. At the time when I was doing the replacements they were being covered under corrosion. The corrosion was covered from six years from the "original" purchase date, not for the life of the vehicle like some in this thread believe it should be.

 

correct. The dealer did mine under corrosion too for my 99, which was 6 years old last year when I did the sail panel

I have problems with the same thing on my car. I just bought it from an individual and I could have swore I looked the car over good but I didn't see them. In the heat you can really see them. My car is a 99 with 48,000 miles on it. You think anyone will help me at the dealership or is it best to call Chevy. I have had the run around before with some Chevy dealerships that don't want to help you at all. Mine has the factory paint on it also.

There was an article and news story I found in Florida about Mitsubishi paint problems so I sent problem solvers all the information and links to these boards showing our problem. I'm in Maryland. Anyone in Florida willing to do a tv interview?

Not sure. I'll post up again if they contact me. If they don't I'll just ask everyone here to make a request too.

 

This problem has been bothering me for few years now. Why don't we just sand the paint off and repaint it for like $250 every few years? That's the cheapest thing to do.

 

I'm sure that I can round up quite a few people from the FL section on here to show our problem

 

Why don't y'all go ahead and make a request on there websight. Maybe the number of people interested will help. Not to mention they'd probably rather interview someone down in Florida.

#1 because you wont get "a few years" out of it if you dont replace it and repair it the right way.
On a seperate note, Pontiac denied me "cost assistance" because of the year of the car, and the fact that I am not the original owner. At the end of our conversation, the lady told me "thank you for chosing PONTIAC"..yeah, no problem.

 

How about wrapping the sail panel in carbon fiber? Has anyone done this?

 

I need to know this too...I bought mine off an individual with no warranty. I have a few of these little bubbles...
