Not a recall and your cars been out of warranty for 5 years. Good luck.

Never seen this thread before, didn't read all of the 31 pages either.
I had my car looked at last month, the guy at the dealer said he'd talk to the factory rep. He never called me back, I called today, he asked if I was the original owner, I said no. He said he'd call back.
Called back and said GM won't do it, and it's going to be $820.
This is bullshit, the car is a 2002 with 38,000 miles and is garage kept.
Shouldn't this be covered under the 6 year/100,000 mile rust through warranty? Sure it's not rust but it's the same thing---- something eating through the paint. It's got little bubbles all across the panel.

I have this same problem with my car, the diffrence is that I just had it painted black at a custom shop so I dont think that GM would mess with it now. The shop that painted it have repainted it 5 times and it keeps happening but they told me that if I can tell them what to do to fix the problem that they will do it for me for free. So my question is could someone tell me the exact process that needs to be done to fix this problem?

The sail itself has to be replaced.
It is the glue that is bad.
It works it's way up through the paint.

So I would need to just replace the roof panel and there wont be any more problems or would they need to scrape glue off or something?

i had my panel replaced and painted by the dealership at no cost to me. they did not want to do it but after a phone call to the number on the back of the owners manual they did the job. i don't have any pics but it looked like sand in the paint. have had no problems so far just make sure they replace it and not just repaint it

I've just spent the last 3 evenings reading through all 31 pages & my eyes hurt!
I have small bubbles on the passenger side which i first noticed last summer, the problem is i live in the UK my g/f is the original and only owner 02 purchased August 02 with under 16000 miles, car is washed & polished weekly wiped down with instant detailer after every drive and put under cover!
OK guys what are my options and where do i start considering we imported the car from the US, and the dealer that brought it over new, is over 200 miles away.
I'm guessing there's probably quite a few people in the UK that bought their cars officially through UK Vauxall/chevrolet dealers that don't even know about the TSB

there is an authorised GM dealer about 20 miles from me, should i try and contact them or call someone from one of the numbers mentioned in this thread, i know there was one guy in this post who's in the UK who had the parts sent to him but wouldn't actually fit the roof, if i can get this done under the anti corrosion warranty then i've got another 12 months to try and get somewhere, before it gets worse

From what I understand, the problem originated from 2 issues, one the sails were not properly prepped for glueing and the actual glue was wrong. With this the glue permiated through the fiberglass through the paint. The new sails are not fiberglass, they are Urethane and should be prepped properly for glueing. The real PITA is removing the old sail. From what I understand, they need to keep a bead of the old glue there to keep the new sail at the proper height. If you get it done, be sure to request to have the sail painted first prior to installation. I made sure that I found a shop who was familiar with the installation. I would also recommend a full detail prior to service. When a clean car comes in for repair, they'll take more care keeping your car clean, especially at a dealership.

So how did it go?

The TSB says to replace the sail panel (part 10254708) and two appliques.
That's what they did with mine. Apparently that old glue never comes out?

Was your paint/body shop willing to do that for free?
