HOK or PPG Paint?
HOK or PPG Paint? For those of you that have dealt with custom paints before, which do you prefer? What are the benifits to either? Cost, application, etc.
I have ordered a paint chip book for both, and I'm sure the colors will be compariable, so I want to get some feedback from those of you that have used them. Thanks!

HOK but for show/weekend car only PPG for daily drivers. Check my sig and cardomain page. I had HOK on my daily driver and it was a bitch because its almost impossible to do touch ups. You have just accept scratches and dings or repaint the whole car.

I know exactly where you're coming from there. My flames were repainted with PPG paint 18 months after the HOK candy.
I got this chip in Feb 2003 about half the size of a dime. It cost me $400 to get fixed and of course as is the case with Candy its tough to match like you said. 3 months later I had all the flames redone with the exception of the tips of the flames which remain HOK magenta candy. I had tapped ever so gently a cement parking lot thing and scraped up the front GFX. Anyway this chip below apparently is from a rock I assume

The car will be a track car for the most part, but it will see a few car shows and cruise nights around town. Definitely not a daily driver.
The ability to touch up the paint does concern me some, but not as much as it would if it was a DD.
I haven't decided how wild I'll get with the paint, but I do know that the more unique it is, the harder it will be to touch up. Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming.

i'm in the same boat, trying to decide on paint for the B4C. it spends most of its time outside though so i guess i should avoid HOK.

I would have to say it depends on the color. Not so much as in quality but color. PPG's orange could be the shade you want when HoK's varies. Then again if its going to be candy then you are in control of the richness of the color. The more coats you put on the richer in color it will be. Im not real familiar with HoK but I am familar with PPG and can vouch for quality. PPG didnt have the color I was looking for so I used Matrix brand candy/basecoat. But, I most definately used PPG clear. For protection and shine. Oranges, reds, yellows have a tendacy to fade out faster than other colors. With that said, choose you clear wisely.
