Dumb question, but I know NOTHING about paint so here goes.
One of my personal favorite colors is a black pearl, mainly the version Harley uses on their bikes. It looks very dark gray (nearly black) in low light and a metallic slate gray in the sun.
My question is, can my factory black be shot with some sort of top-coat to give the same effect, or would it need to be stripped down to be done from scratch?
Just batting around some ideas..... Thanks!

it is possible but probably wouldn't come out that good..... your factory paint would need to be in basically perfect shape.... and even then if it was mine i would want another coat of black base coat painted on before the pearl is put down... IMO
