Default **Update** Just scuffed my car how can it be fixed?

Well I was walking buy the car with a ladder and boom the bottom of the ladder scuffed my rear bumper . What would be the best way to get this fixed. I dont really want to repaint, can it be buffed out. Any info will help. Here are a few pics to get a idea what the hell I just did. I could kill myself right about now.

Before

After With some Compound and elbow grease.

If it's only in the clear coat, I would say probably some wet sanding with an extremely fine grain sand paper. I'm not an expert though, but it seems like a good plan. If you go this route, just make sure you get a good coat of wax on top of this section after sanding. Good luck.

If you are located anywhere near DFW I can take a look at it and more than likely fix you up. The area will need to be wetsanded if the 'scuff' doesn't catch your nail while going over it.

But yeah, it will need to be wetsanded.

How much should I pay to just have the rear bumper repainted?

It helps if you have a hookup someplace. On one of my old cars I was quoted $350 at a reputable shop.

$350!?!?!? Holy crap! Carsmetics wants $180 to paint the front bumper on my Sierra, and I think that's outrageous. It's just two small chunks of paint missing.

Ya, a $10 tube of touch-up paint fixed it up pretty good. I might get a tube of clear coat to make it nice and shiny though.

I have worked in a body shop for 8 years. Try to wet sand it smooth with 1500-2000 grit. If it is too deep just scuff the bumper with a gray scotch brite and put 2 coats of clear coat on it. I would say any reasonable shop would reclear the bumper for around 125-150. I would not pay over 250 for the entire bumper to be repainted.

Rule of thumb, most of the time if your nail catches in the scratch, it needs to be repainted if not it will wetsand and buff right out, or possibly just buff out. If you dont know how to do it, a body shop should be able to take care of it for you.

Where are you at in Texas, if in Houston I can try to buff it out for you! No Charge

Go to your local walmart and buy some 3m rubbing compound using a soft towel rubb the scratches use plenty of compound . If not deep enough they should come right off.

if you've never wet sanded something before you'll probaly end up sanding through the clear coat and into the base coat, the factory paint is probaly pretty thin. your best bet would be taking it to a bodyshop and have someone who has experience (wet sanding & polishing) and let them fix it for you. it shouldn't cost much money. $20-$30

While buffing with the compound the scratch is gone but once the compounds is wiped dry it comes back.

if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail your going to have to wetsand it out, rubbing it with a towel won't get it. if you do wet sand the bumper just do it real slow so you don't sand through the clear. if the scratch is through the clear and into the base its gonna have to be repainted to make it look right. good luck
