Default Fixing the paint in my engine bay?

I had mentioned this in a different thread in the appearance section but I suppose it belongs more here.

The paint in my engine bay is pretty messed up in a few spots, scraped off in some places and around the battery it is completely gone ( I think the battery exploded before I bought the car and the previous owner never cleaned it up) so there is some rust forming there and the paint is discolored in alot of areas.

What is my best option as far as fixing this stuff? Does it make any sense to prep everything, mask stuff off and spray paint it or something like that ? Sorry if thats a totally off the wall idea but I wouldn't know where to start.

Thanks in advance

Not off the wall at all. That's exactly what I did when I filled in all the holes on the strut towers and resprayed. If you can get yourself a touch up gun that will work really well as they are small and can be managed in tight spaces and they have a very small spray pattern for less overspray. Tape
up and cover up everything you can, including the outside of the vehicle and go for it.

Few questions then...

what holes did you fill in the strut towers ? Where the clips for the wire harnesses were?

What did you fill them with ?

How should I prep the engine bay? just spray over? primer and then paint ?

Where would I get the paint from?

Is a cheapo touchup gun like this any good for a simple project like this ?

Also, got any pics of the work in progress or finished ??

Yes, the holes where the clips and so forth were. I fiberglassed over them to seal them up and provide a strong base.

I would like to do this as well, I show mine so I would like to bring a shinny look. Will you have to sand or rough up the paint on the fender well under the hood or can I just spray over it and then my clear coat? I'll tape everything up and use the paint and clear to match the car. Would this be all I need to do? Thanks

We just panited LASTLS1 twin turbo car and the motor is out and i finished stripping the rest of the harness out of the way. There is just so much stuff in the way under the hood that there is really no good way about doing it unless you take it apart like this. And yes im a body tech/owner so taking things apart like this i really is not a big deal.

It's not even funny how clean that engine bay looks. I'd eat off of it after the paint dries.

the best think i found for masking off wiring harnesses is tin foil from your kitchen
easy to use and lot easier than tape
